Thanks Clutterfree
I really hope so as well. The whole thing really struck a chord with me as my dad was in the same postion as this man when Mum had to go into a care homeAt the time I could only help out with time and energy as I was so hard up at the time:(
I am reading some of my posts since I joined this thread and do think I am beginning to sound like Mother TherseaWhich trust me I am really not  MK just makes you think and have a bit more time to action
So please dont think that I am :rotfl:I would hate to come across like that xx

I'm back from two lovely weeks in Cornwall. The weather was fantastic and my batteries are recharged ready for more Kondoing, I just need to finish all of the holiday laundry first.
Whilst away I Kondoed an old pair of jeans which had made it through the clothes cull but the zip was broken, half of the decorative stones had fallen off the pockets and a belt loop broke. I also Kondoed the kitchen hand towels at the end the holiday (27years old and threadbare).
Yesterday was spent putting all of the holiday stuff away and starting on the laundry. I did however kondo the drawer of hand/tea towels in the kitchen. I purchased some nice new hand towels and ditched the remaining joyless ones into the charity rag bag. Now the drawer looks lovely everything is easy to see and my aprons fit in there nicely as well. OH laughed when he saw it and told me that I was mad but agreed that it looked nice.
I need to continue with the laundry today and deliver the thank you present to the friends who kept an eye on the house for us, all edible in the spirit of not giving them anything that will add to their own "stuff".
It is paperwork next for me but I won't be starting it until next weekend. I go back to work tomorrow after having had 10 weeks off with a broken ankle and I suspect I will be pretty tired next week especially as the ankle swells throughout the day and is pretty painful at times especially at night and once I'm back at work there will be no opportunity to put it up to reduce the swelling.
I forgot to add that OH would usually come back from a holiday having purchased some new clothes but because we Kondoed his clothes before the holiday he knew exactly what he had and that he did not need any more. He window shopped but resisted the temptation. :TI am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order.

Hi all, I am feeling so much better today. Still coughing a lot but it's stopped hurting so much.
Yesterday I sorted through nearly all of my clothes, I had to stop because it was tiring me out a lot. I had sorted through lots about a month ago. I did as suggested by type of clothing, it shocked me how much I still had. I then started on my books (I have over 200 cookery books) and I kondod (not sure on spelling) a lot of books. We'll sell those to a localish 2nd hand book shop in the next few days.
One thing that has struck a cord with me that lots of other people have mentioned is that I have been surprised by the things that do and don't bring me joy.
Still enough of my chatting it's time to get back to it. I want to have as much sorted as possible for the charity shop tomorrow.
Thanks everyone.x0 -
hopeful how did you get on with cookery books? It was my hardest category and emotionally I found it very tough, probably need to redo at some point, have made £100 selling some on Amazon though. Find once they are listed they don't feel like mine any more and are easy to let go of, don't know why!
Kitchen is nearly done, just frozen food and baking trays to go, probably should re look at pans too, can't remember the last time I used the wok but it's still there!
Have done my sons clothes with him today, he's 12 and it was quite easy, hopefully will make putting them away easier now there is less. Would live to replace his wardrobe with a chest of drawers but it is too heavy for me to move it out of the house, will have to wait a while....
Will do blankets, bedding and towels (again) this afternoon. Think in some categories I just weed out the tatty or definitely not liked and quite a bit is kept automatically. I really need to actually hold and evaluate everything, quite a few things are slipping past me:)0 -
I really need to get back to kondoing. I started a while ago but then stalled as I had a French exchange student coming to stay and had to get the house tidy. However he has been and gone and it is time to finish...and probably restart the process.
In the past week I have realised the difference between a tidy house and a kondoed house.
The first instance was when I was looking for ds2's scout stuff to take to camp. I found everything apart from his waterproof trousers. I knew where they were before I tidied the house...in the spare room. That room was tidied as ds1 had to sleep in it when the student was here but no time to kondo it. I eventually found the trousers in the cupboard where the boiler is with the roll mat (which he didn't need this time). It was a logical place to put them at the time but everything will go back in the same place.
OH has an interview with a supply agency tomorrow and needs his PGCE certificate. I asked him today if he knew where it was. He said "you put it in safe place didn't you?" I did put it in a drawer after the last time we couldn't find it and I knew which drawer it was in which was a bit better than last time but it took a while to trawl through all the papers in there. It is now in his certificates folder. I did take the opportunity to ask OH to sort through the pile and most of it was his and went on the recycling:)
I am loving all the posts and stories on here. They have made me realise I also need to change my way of looking at things if this is going to work.saving for ds2's summer international scout camp - £200

The table is clear. That does not mean paperwork is done but it is getting there. A small pile of my desk of stuff to deal with. Tomorrow is a day at cricket and I am planning on taking all my Governor paperwork in the car and sorting through it file by file whilst I am there. I'll take two bags one for recycling and one for confidential waste.
Inspired by you all a picture we took down whilst decorating is now back on the wall so it cannot get damaged. I still liked it but could not decide where to put it so a decision needed to be made. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -
Question!
Am about to start my clothes - 2 wardrobes, a chest of drawers and the piles of clothes next to my bed (clean laundry not put away, kids clothes grown out of)
My question is, it seems so big a job and I will put it all out on my bed, but what if I dont finish, I will have nowhere to sleep haha.
I know I just need to start but it just seems such a mountain to climb, did anyone feel overwhelmed to start in the first place?MFW 16 No 33

ND - nice to see you here- break it down into sub categories. Do your clothes first - underwear/ socks/ tights/ stockings, trousers/ jeans, skirts and dresses, tops (break into casual/ work etc if necessary), sports wear, coats/ jackets, hats/ scarves/ gloves/ sunhats/ sunglasses, swimwear - and other clothing which you may have. Then shoes/ boots. Then I did accessories (so bags, jewellery, floaty scarves)
If you split into sub categories it doesn't matter if you haven't finished ALL of your clothes by bed time - you'll have done several (or more) sub categories of clothes, which will be an improvement. Make sure you include clean laundry of yours when getting a sub category together, though
I would also say that you need to get rid of the discards sooner rather than later - drop them off at a CS tomorrow/ asap, list them on ebay by next Saturday or whatever the case is - otherwise your discards are still cluttering the house - and your mind - up xxI am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200 -
Haha cross post with Greent but I will leave it up.
Norfolk it is a big job but surprisingly it goes very quickly.
I did mine in sub categories. Son's stuff was really easy. He doesn't have much as he grows so quickly.
OH stuff was folded and only the really scratty stuff got rid of. If I threw anything out he wouldn't get on board. He has now realised that he has too much that he doesn't wear or doesn't fit. He has started throwing them out as he finds them.
My stuff. I did that but now know there is more to get out of the house. I have found that some things I thought bring me joy actually don't so they will be out this week.
Just need to get DD2 on board. She has more clothes than everyone else in the house put together but wears the same stuff. She won't let me in her room to help so will get her twin on board.
Good luck. Remember the saying, ' how do you eat an elephant? A bit at a time.' I think that is one of Grey Queen's wonderful sayings. Great advice though.De cluttering Konvert.Getting there
