The KonMarie method

I've asked mum if she wants to take my 'old' cutlery. She said no? Found out it was viners and then nearly had my hand off
I am in the process of kondoing my books. I love books and don't want to see them go, but there are far too many. Sending them onto the likes of we buy books and the like means that I can claw back some money to save. I'm up to £100
I have rejigged my finances - kondoing of some sort, at least - and with car sharing, bank account fee savings and then cashback and then cancelling things I no longer need/want has lead to savings of... wait for it... almost 2k _pale_
Tbf, this money has been earmarked for ice skating lessons, but that's something that will bring much more joy than spending £13 50 a month on bank account fees!0 -
Hi all, been lurking as I think I am feeling guilty for not doing anything these last few days. I have a lot on at work and been running round after car. Battery is now sorted so playing a bit of catch up really!
However, there was a service at church today so I took the books from by my bed and also the choc chip cookies that I have tons of from a mystery shop. There is always coffee and biscuits after a service so at least they go to a good home!
Dd1 at a sleepover tomoz so hoping to finish going through dd2 bits with her this weekend. I will then go back and revisit the list I made on thread to see what I have achieved.
Can't wait for the days when I can walk in the house, to a tidy, clutter free place where I can drink an after work coffee without thinking about lists of stuff that need doing and do stuff that bring a smile to my face.Don’t put it down - put it away!

Unshopping!!!:money:
We are so snaffling that for our collection of Kondoisms”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

You are most welcome to snaffle away, my dear.
The joy of unshopping is that it reverses the normal downsides of shopping, which is that you get more laden as you go on and come home wearily and dump bags on the floor and have them in your way.
I went out with a bag weighting down each arm, came skipping back empty-handed and have this thing called SPACE on my floor, it's a fantastic thing to find waiting for you.
I will have some home-time and allotment-time in the next three days and aim to shift some Stuff and get to the bottom of things. I have an idea about decluttering a few things I have held onto (scraps, basically) to Do Something With, by Not Doing It.Kinda radical for me. Plus will be doing laundry, which means the discards which need to be laundered will get done and can be aired and added to the start of the next donation bag.
I'm really cheering rosie383 on about her move, how wonderful that she and her family are getting rid of stuff before they move rather than after, which is the normal way of things. And they will be easing there way through a stressful time by doing so, which is great.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Still haven't got back on track with this. Up until a couple of weeks ago my house was at least holding up in terms staying tidy but the last couple of weeks things have slipped. I have been so busy including visiting a friend in a hospice which I've found emotionally draining. The good news is I still haven't been buying and bringing things into the house.
I really felt better when I was doing this so want to get back on track. I swapped my autumn/winter & spring/summer clothes over today and it wasn't as traumatic as usual but I'm struggling to fit my supposedly Kondo'd spring/summer wear into my wardrobe and chest of drawers. Part of the problem seems to be that a lot of it doesn't stand up so well in the drawer when folded & there's not enough room in the wardrobe for it. Any suggestions for folding flimsy items?
The other part of the problems is that clearly I've still got way too much stuff - time for Kondo Part 2 at the weekend.Shifting my energy for 20200 -
Hi
Maybe you need to do an extra fold to make them more firm to stand up. You might have already thought of that though.
My flimsy scarves were hard to get to stand up.
I folded them quite firmly.
I store them in a grape container for more support.
I don't have much drawer space or clothing really so hang my clothes up.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

Thanks jinny I will experiment with the folding over the weekend and I've just remembered that I have some spare drawer dividers that would help to pack them tighter :-)Shifting my energy for 20200

Some of this is not for me, but I gave the clothes folding a go last night.
Drawers completed: Pants, Trousers, half the shorts drawer).
Drawers to go: T-Shirts, Jumpers, other half of shorts drawer (which actually holds PJs!).
Not sure it will work on my jumper drawer. Sock drawer had the same fate as I exclusively wear black socks so just tuck them into each other and toss them in!
Will have to upload some pics when it's all done.
One question though: Does the "fold and roll" method not increase creases in the clothing?0 -
No, strangely enough it doesn't seem to - admittedly I am folding cardigans and things which tend to 'smooth out' in wear, I wouldn't fold a cotton shirt for example. I am still hanging up my t-shirts, as I have more hanging space than drawer space, but I think they would be fine folded as well.
What has really surprised me is how much more I am noticing the condition of my clothes, and I'm also noticing the cardigans that don't make it out of the drawer very often, much more so than when they were in the wardrobe. Some of them may be thanked and sent on their way shortly!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
I've had a massive purge of my clothes this week, resulting in at least 20 bags for the charity shop! Many of the clothes had not been worn since we moved here 8 years ago, some much older than that.... Still need to sort my bedside drawers, but think I need to do another charity shop run first so we don't keep tripping over bags, did take 12 bags on Wednesday.
I was offered extra hours at work yesterday, on a regular basis, and my first thought was, oh no how will I get the house sorted out!!!0
