Another post re not having stuff. The site is more to do with the primal way of life - more particularly diet. But this post is great

Hi All, I had a good day yesterday kondo'ing my shoes. My Wedding shoes on the Ebay pile and 5 other pairs to leave the house with a pair of sandals, and the boots I bought for my late Mum's last birthday :(:(:(. Also a handbag which I bought when I thought I 'ought' to change my style a bit, but I was never comfortable with it and hardly ever used it.

One of the pairs of shoes is the prettiest pair of shoes I've ever owned, they were worn to exhaustion and kept for love. They had a big cuddle and a special 'thank you' before they went into the discard bag.

Getting rid of the pretty shoes and my Mum's boots needed a couple of cups of tea and some chocolate afterwards as a consolation.

Now suddenly my wardrobe looks spacious, I have only the shoes I can wear in my present lifestyle and have been able to put my handbag in as well, so there's a tidy (empty!) space where I used to keep it.

Thanks to everyone who posts on here, it really helps to know that everyone has had dilemmas to resolve and reading your stories and advice helps me keep on the right track. :A

  • It's really hard getting rid of things like your mum's boots, but that's where I find this method more helpfult than others - you can say 'thank you' for the pleasure they brought at the time and then let them go on to give pleasure to someone else. Congratulations on doing it, you will feel better for it I'm sure.

I found it hard to let some of my mum's stuff go (years ago) until I realised that in fact it didn't make me feel good, it made me feel sad to see it. I still have - and use - her handbag, and lots of other things that she used like her sewing machine and baking stuff but my memories of her are not in her possessions.

I'm the same, for two weeks business trip to Hong kong and Singapore, I took a cabin bag sized suitcase and a small rucksack. When my colleagues saw it coming off the luggage belt, they said "have you just come for the day?" :rotfl:

But careful packing, and mix and match clothing, meant that I was fine- a bit sick of it all after two weeks, but fine. A couple of scarves (samosa'd of course) also can transform outfits.

Just can't be arissed dragging it all around

    :rotfl::rotfl:

We did 2 weeks in Florida with 4 cabin sized suitcases for 5 of us - including a nappy wearing toddler and 4 small rucksacks for carry on. The Virgin airways staff were amazed and thought that we were trying to check in our hand luggage when we handed over our small suitcases :D:D

Thank you so much to the OP for starting this thread and introducing me to the world of KM. I LOVE YOU!
Packing to move house and happily getting rid of stuff that I never would have before. I have gone back to every box that I had packed before KM and got rid of so much more carp. I have shelves in my wardrobe that are completely empty. My whole huge bookcase and cupboard condensed into two boxes and it is on ebay. I've also managed to sell a couple of hundred quid's worth on ebay, things which were lurking unloved and unwanted.
As we are selling our big suite, cooker and one fridge freezer, and bed bases, I am seriously thinking that we will fit all of our stuff in a big van rather than a huge lorry.
Going to buy some big floor cushions that we can use until we get another suite and they can be sold again when no longer needed rather than putting them in the loft.

VJs Mum - Re your six bottle openers, when I Kondo'd the cutlery drawer we turned out to have five corkscrews :o

DS has gone off to help a friend with a small plumbing job , and went off in the huff because the plastic box of plumbing bits and pieces was nowhere to be found. It seems very odd that it doesn't seem to be anywhere in the house, so OH and I are wondering if DS has actually taken it out of the house to do a previous small plumbing job elsewhere and has just forgotten! One thing's for sure, he'll be very embarrassed if it turns up in his chaotic bedroom at some point!

:D You could get together and open a bar with some of your extras. I'm sure most of us could spare you a few glasses to help set it up.

Managed to get to the chazzer a whisker before closing time with my two donation bags, so that's all good. I just love un-shopping, when you take Stuff out and come back empty-handed.

Have been checking out renewing my driver's license for later this year, which I will have to do later this year and discovered that the paper part won't be being re-issued, so that will mean a smidge less Important Paper to keep hold of, thank goodness.
