I've only read as far as post 238 so far, but I can safely say I'm hooked.
Over the course of this morning I folded no less than 114 carrier bags into cute little triangles.
This afternoon I have refolded all my sons vests and sleepsuits and I'm amazed at how much space has appeared.
I've culled the ridiculous amount of pens that were shoved in a bag in the spare room of doom, binned the ones that don't work, bagged some up for the OH to take to work and banned him from bringing anymore home, bagged another load for my business box for customers filling in order forms, and fitted the rest into the pencil cases we already had.
All in all I'm quite pleased with myself, now I'm waiting for the dryer to finish so I can get to folding pants and socks!!
You guys have alot to answer for!!!

Thanks for keeping the thread going guys, am back on the trail and after a v busy Feb (when I intended to Kondo my study which is 6'x8' and packed to the gills!) later today. Will reward myself at the end of the day with a cup of tea and a dose of more inspiration from my fellow Kondo queens when I catch up on this thread.

Quick question from me first though. I have some old tin boxes (Roses, QS etc) - how can these be recycled?

We can put ours in the kerbside weekly council recycle collection Tin ones the 'metals' box collection and plastic chocolates/biscuits tubs go in plastic...........our council takes almost everything as long as its 'boxed' and it doesnt actually have to be sorted, but we do :)

I can't believe how much I have achieved in a few hours today, in my kitchen and utility room. All my baking trays, utensils, cake cases, ingredients etc. are now in two cupboards in the utility room (adjoining the big kitchen, it used to be the old kitchen so is a reasonable size). I went through all the medicines in my cupboard, got rid of those no longer needed (will take to chemist), and they now live upstairs in a pretty Laura Ashley box on top of my wardrobe, well away from the reach of my grandchildren. I sent my husband to the charity shop with lots of nice dishes - out the door quickly before I can change my mind. My tea towels are sorted and I am only keeping the best, the rest will go to recycling as I have lots of cleaning cloths already. There is actually space in some cupboards but I know I can still achieve more. Tomorrow I will tackle the food cupboards, with the help of my husband. No more out of date food for me.

Sitting with a g&t now, a nice dinner cooking and I am looking forward to a pleasant evening, and winning the lottery, of course, lol.

The monthly craft/artisan food market is resuming tomorrow morning so I will go there to buy bread/marmalade/cheese, have a nice lunch then get back to work. I am out tomorrow evening, to see Blake, so, hopefully I won't fall asleep in the middle of their concert.
  • Thanks for the ideas for photo storage JIL & Springdreams. I used to have my photos in boxes but they took up too much space - they were in 5 boxes. Maybe I just had too many photos or too large boxes? I will continue the discarding & see what I need at the end. I appreciate the suggestion :-)

I keep thinking I am getting near to the end but still pockets of mess and unjoyful things to tackle. Yesterday I finally got to the storage basket of 'important' things that sits beside my armchair; the basket that housed all the paraphernalia one needs near to hand when sitting with ones laptop. Computer leads, more pens, chargers, headphones, notepads upon notepads and a biscuit tin full of important papers and bills (circa 2009-10).

I repurposed a clear plastic storage cube to tidy away the USB chargers and leads and headphones that were previously like spaghetti in said basket and kondoed all the scraps of notes and half used notebooks and pads - I couldn't bear to part with any of the actual notepads but did tear out all the used pages of random lists, notes and jottings - including pages of notes from Spanish lessons I was doing at least ten years ago.

It took me nearly half of yesterday to get through this and after shredding the tin full of bills I too have a spare tin that I was wondering what to do with. For now it's washed and put to one side whilst I wait and see if it calls to me for some other purpose. :T

I know this is an old style thread, but I'm glad I'm a young married woman and mum to be in 2015 and not 1955!! These things make me laugh out loud, my husband would think he'd walked into the wrong house if any of this was true!!

Well, I was born in the 1950s, but certainly don't remember my Mum ever doing any of this. If she were here now, she would :rotfl: too, and as for my Dad, well, he would just have known he had walked into the wrong house :D

Perhaps it was different in the higher echelons of society though - my parents lived in a council house, and my Dad worked in a factory. My Mum went back to work part time too, once we were all in school :)

I keep saying that what I need is a 1950s housewife. Most of my female colleagues agree - so if you can find anywhere that makes them, there's a waiting list!
