Hi everyone, I have had a stupidly busy and stressful couple of days and just caught up with all your activity and news, so much great stuff happening:D

I feel decidedly yuk and lifeless today and am working slightly off-piste as I have not finished clothes yet, but having received a few important items of paperwork in the post recently I decided to grab a few of the piles of "to be dealt with" stuff and find a home for them. 70% is ending up in the recycling or shredder and the rest sorted ready for filing.

I have a cupboard of doom, which is about a quarter of the space available in a large Victorian sideboard, this cubby of doom holds about 18 months worth of stuff pending filing:( I shall not be tackling it today, but at least the only things going into it now will be a) necessary to keep and b) sorted into some sort of order.

Then I must head into town to bank and CS (depositing), hopefully some fresh air, it is sunny, cold and very windy here might blast away this awful thick head, might try the hot water, towel and Vicks trick first though.

    Hi all,

Really chuffed with the kitchen :)

I think that this book cam along at just at the right time for me (us), as DH was busy ripping out and building back after 4 years of saving - I have been ruthless with what I have got rid of.

The lady in the CS asked if I was downsizing as I was getting rid of so much kitchen stuff - I told her about the book, and she said it must be influencing other,s as they are getting lots more stuff in than usual.

I know its very anti Kondo, but I,m going to treat myself to a trip to the 'North Island' next week
and go to !kea for a few little bits to help with the keeping things sorted - have done myself a list and comes to about £40 with an addition tenner to get there.

Going into our new giant cutlery drawer for a second cull as I,m not sure I really 'need' 7 wooden spoons ;)
Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Oh you are all doing so well!
I'm loving all the stories of success, it seems we build on each others success as well as our own :T
I have finally decided which pictures give me enough joy to hang on my walls, and hung them up. Just need to borrow a spirit level so I can hang a quilt and I'm there.
Have also finished my sewing room, and can get to the things I need now, and used a c-o-d and bookshelf from the bedroom so didn't need to buy any storage - in fact I have umpteen cardboard boxes and about 6 plastic crates with lids, now gracing the bedroom until I decide I don't need them.
I hoped to start on the loft this weekend but I need DD to help me get stuff down, so I'll attempt that next weekend. I also need to have a go at the cupboard under the stairs which I might start tonight - so many tools and bits of hardware in there  and I'm sure there's more in the shed :(
Also found some more gold to sell - it won't make me rich but it won't be sitting in a drawer bothering me either :T

Oh, and I tidied my bit of the office at work too - makes me :)

Keep going lovely Konverts, we're getting there :T

Thanks to me implementing this method of tidying, I decided to take two nighties (still with labels) back to M&S. I had forgotten about them till now. I got a credit note to be used in store (no hardship) within a month but it is better than stockpiling stuff, which I will not do again.

So, coupled with the fact that I just made a (necessary) purchase from Boots which was covered by my Advantage points, I am having a very positive day, largely thanks to this system.

I just finished the second of the two window seats I was making for DD and had some material left. Instead of just keeping it and thinking about using it for cushion covers eventually and then not getting around to it - I found a spare duvet and used it and the remaining fabric to make two bolster cushions for the window seats.

I pinned them up this afternoon and just have the ends to sew then can give them to DD when she pops round tonight. :j

Planned to start on kitchen drawers or cupboards today after work, as I was due to get home about 3pm. But by the time I had stopped to drop off a parcel, got the washing off the line, put the kettle on and got changed and put the dinner on, I had lost my "oomph".:( I may do something after tea, but on the other hand I may just sit and read in my PJ's....feel a bit like that today. Maybe I should get out the Wii and do some exercise to get me going again!

  • All good progress.
Went for lunch at a friend's house and told her about the Konmarie method. She couldn't understand my explanation so offered to show her. Ended up having a lovely time folding all her clothes in drawers, making loads more room and them looking so lovely. She had already organised them into separate colours per drawer. Also sorted out some for charity when asked if they gave her joy.
She is now a fully fledged Konvert.
Can't believe how a curious click on forum would lead to all this.

Allybee - the Kondo ing of the books went well, thanks. It is amazing really as I have always been such a book lover and used to have stacks (literally) of books leaning against the bookcase in my last house. Downsized and shifted a lot of stuff 5 years ago and then a few bags over last few weeks so there would have been less for me to Kondo anyway.

Island maid - wow you have done an amazing job in your ( very fab) kitchen. I can see that it would be peaceful to go in there.
Well I haven't done the paperwork yet ha ha. Am definitely putting it off, I can see that clearly. That's good though as it will be good for me to realise this and see that I am allowing paperwork to have some kind of control over me! I'm out at a meeting tonight but may well start the task tomorrow after work. I will start it tomorrow after work. Or the next day.
Keep going everyone. It's so fabulous to look at my lovely minimalist amount of clothes, all having a little rest from their hard work. All colour coordinated too and it is so easy in the morning to get dressed for work. What I have been doing with my 'airing' clothes is hanging them up before folding them and putting them back. I will work out what I wore once so I can wear it again before wash.
Ok off for quick browse and cup of tea. Have had cheese on toast and a yogurt for a lovely easy tea before I go out.

I've currently got EVERYTHING out of the wardrobe. And haven't yet opened about 12 boxes of clothes that don't fit in the wardrobe. Does this bring me joy? . Most of it doesn't .

The bits that do bring me joy are the impractical things. The 1920s satin coat with the enormous fur collar. The 30s silk nighties. The mad 80s japanese designer stuff with several spare sleeves. The wardrobe that brings me joy is not a wardrobe that fits my lifestyle. Completely stuck.

Clothes have always been my thing. I've worked in the fashion industry for 15 years. Clothes get me excited. I've deliberately left clothes until pretty muuch last because far from being , as MK said, the easiest to deal with, for me I knew it would be the hardest.

I don't know what to do now . I didn't have any trouble with the stuff she says would be the hardest such as old photographs and mementos.
