The KonMarie method

I think it's important to remember that whatever decluttering method you use, if something does 'bring you joy' you should keep it. So if you have space for thousands of books keep them. If you read and re-read them, then keep them.
The whole point of paperbacks is so that you CAN read them in the bath! I got rid of lots when I moved - I was ruthless, and not well, so hadn't been reading for a while. I now regret it as I have the space for them, but can't find some of the books I want to read, and probably shouldn't have thrown away. I kept reference books and 'proper books' I rarely read, and got rid of the novels I'd probably re-read regularly in the bath.
N.B. Don't try using the kindle in the bath... maybe bath readers need to have a bookshelf in the bathroom of 'bath-time books'

Hiya from Geordieland..alreet hinny!
I was watching a documentary on you toob
about Stephen King. It freaked me out that the bloke
Who ran him over in the snow that inspired his novel
Misery, was found dead in his house sitting on the sofa
With no apparent cause of death:eek:
My younger son was being babysat by his older brother
When he was quite Young.
His brother found a video of IT by Stephen King
His brother did in his defence put it off when he realised it was
Scary. My son slept for weeks clinging to my back. He still as a grown man have a dislike for clowns.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

I bought a plastic holder thing just so I can read my Kindle in the bath. Been a couple of years now and no accidents. Unlike paperbacks which were constantly dropped then dried out on the radiator.
We used to have a bookshelf in the toilet (our bathroom and toilet are seperate) but thats a different story.
I know what you mean about proper books. I have all my textbooks from uni 20 years ago. They've never ever brought me joy but they cost a blimmin fortune.I should try to sell them but there's quite a lot of IT content which is all completely out of date.0 -

Aye am canny.
I don't get to use my native tongue much down in that there London. I lapsed the other day during a conversation about the microwaves at work.
I simply said "Well they must be a canny age, mustn't the?" my collegues bemused looks were priceless
If your son thought the video was frightening the book is terrifying. I think anyone exposed to Pennywise at a tender age is nervous around clowns. Especially Ronald Macdonald (shudders).0 -
It's worth checking amazon trade-in prices. Then at least you can box up the ones that are worth selling for trade-in, and the rest for the CS.
In my last house I had a full wall of bookshelves in the downstairs loo. There's no space for them in this one, and I miss it. I was the perfect place to keep the trashy reading

another King fan here *waves*
I'm keeping them ALL!!!!!

I didn't even know about Amazon trade in. I shall definitely have a look at that.
As luck would have it they've just started a books for donations table at work so I'll shall be adding to that . Theres also a charity bin at the end of the road.
I must live on the one of the few High Street that doesn't have a single charity shop.0 -
Well folks I felt poorly again last night so I didn't get onto the cupboard under the stairs. The best I could manage was going through old exercise books into which I'd written and stuck recipes over the years.
I copied out the dozen I've actually used  onto A4 paper and filed them in a folder donated by DD, and binned 2 of the exercise books :T
Need to finish that off tonight.
So another 3 big bin bags out this morning and a box of recycling
I'm feeling quite overwhelmed by the mess I'm creating at the moment - I know there's a defined end in sight, and I know about not making an omelet without breaking eggs :rotfl: but by golly my house is a mess and I want it dealt with pronto! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. This is what makes the MK way different to other decluttering advice for me. I have always struggled with techniques that say 'if you havent touched it in a year, ditch it' With MK it doesn't matter if you never ever use it and it takes up lots of room, if you love it and it brings you joy you can keep it, guilt-free. Getting rid of all the stuff that doesnt bring you joy will give you space. No one should be throwing away things they really want to keep.0 -
