ploppy57, try to think of it as slowly slowly catchee monkey.
I really understand where you're coming from with wanting the whole house done now. Or even yesterday. But your hubs may well be feeling uncomfortable and threatened at the rapid rate of proposed change. Why not let him see you becoming lighter and more joyful and want to have some of that same lightness and joyfulness for himself?
I would relax about the vodka bottles. It doesn't go off, it doesn't attract vermin (a burglar would certainly take them, tho) and it could always double as medicinal alcohol in a crisis. You may even be able to suggest he re-gift it to someone who would drink it.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I agree with all the above, my DH is far from enthused about it all. Part of the trouble is the gusto with which we are all throwing ourselves into it, we've seen the light but they haven't!! So we feel let down and disillusioned that its all one sided.
I'm trying to concentrate on my stuff and the kids are finding its a better way of having the house and I hope in time for a change of atmosphere!!
I'm a bit scared it won't last, and I guess my DH feels this is just another fad.... but this is a change that is going to remain.0 -
Anybody else find themselves just having ideas about storage for different things or thinking " That doesn't give me joy", even when not actually doing any Kondoing? :rotfl: The whole process really does make you realise what you can do without and what really brings you joy. Just can't wait to get the whole house done now.
Yes!! I was looking at my tiny and cluttered excuse for a utility room - it has the boiler, the washing machine and a freezer in it, and a whole load of carp, including walking boots, football boots, trainers and wellies that have long been outgrown. Definitely not joy giving. My frustration is that, though it won't take that long to do, i am just too busy to do it. I may reward myself with doing it at the weekend, when i have caught up my marking.
My OH is just like yours too. My plan is to do everything else and then see if he will decide to play ballI wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
Thank you for your encouragement. I am going on a training course tomorrow so I plan to read the book.Debts Jan 2014 £20,108.34

Oh dear I think I may face eviction from the klub. In stated of replacing ds2's wardrobe with a chest of drawers he repaired the wardrobe after taking everything out of it. Ds2 said the clothes were all in his way and he couldn't sit at his desk to do his homework so while he was at school I put them all back. They all need sorting through so i admit I just threw them in categories on the shelves:eek: when he has sorted through them I will fold them.
I did redeem myself and kondo a shelf in the bathroom. I cleared a basket that had body lotions in that haven't been used for years and will reuse the basket else where. I also cleared out another container which had bits and pieces in and binned most of it. Previously I would have kept the container but I looked at it and thought " does this bring me joy?" No something has stained it and a candle has melted all over it. So I binned it too.
So can I stay a member....please:)saving for ds2's summer international scout camp - £200

Evening All,
I have had a fabulous and fruitful day!!!
I got the photos finished at last its such a weight of my mind.
The suitcases etc came down from the attic and i got them emptied and sorted they were just full of carp i have never missed or even want.
I too am angry about the amount of hard earned cash that has been wasted over the years, especially as we were trying to bring up 6 strapping sons on mostly one quite low wage.
Ah well my favourite saying is "every day is a learning day" so much thought will be going in to purchases from now on.
Got rid of loads of kitchen bits that were in the attic too. It's not even as though i do any cooking up there, in fact i have never been up thats something i delegate.
My poor husband is used to meeting black sacks at the door and asking where he has to put them, he is such a star.
onwards and upwards everyone
our great leader would be so proud.

Oh no, I have no intention of touching OH's stuff.
My own excess stuff stresses and upsets me anyway. My inability to get rid of it upsets me. My crowded, messy, dirty home upsets me. Then OH feels the need to have a pop about it all. So then I feel defensive and no I don't want to nor can I get rid of anything.
If I try to Konmari while he's here, he will at best ridicule me, at worst have a go about the extra mess. I don't think I could focus on what brings me joy when reeling from an argument that is a touchy subject.
I'd rather sort my own stuff, alone, and then one day look around and feel relieved I'm not suffocating in my junk. Whether he then sorts his stuff is n bother to me, if he won't then no worries I will hAve plenty of space to store it neatly and out of sight!0 -
Hi, finally went through some packed boxes in the garage. My house is for sale and I packed them a few months ago to try to declutter the place.
Out of 11 boxes I now have two! The amount of carp I had kept was horrendous, seeing as I'd already whittled it down. So glad I didn't have to unpack them at the new house!I must remember that "Money Saving" is not buying heavily discounted items that I do not need. :hello:0 -
MM I am going to do the same as you today. I have five packed boxes in the living room, still no idea when we are ever going to move, have no clue what is even in them as I packed them before properly reading the moving home thread. If I even get one empty then I will be happy. I have been looking at them for months now and they irritate me.
As for those with OHs who are not positive about any of this, try to do it when they aren't home and able to complain. I am gradually working through mine and the kids stuff. The most I have done with dh stuff is ranger rolling and folding. Because he sees how easy it is to find stuff and the fact that anything that got sorted a few weeks ago is still tidy, I'm only hearing positive noises now. But I'm not discussing it!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

After I went offline last night, I was reading on and off and thinking. I was thinking about komono, and remembered my cache of - wait for it - 35mm plastic film canisters. Very young readers might have to ask their Mums what these are.I kept them because they are small strong containers, and you don't get them any more. Well, I get an occasional one as am a film camera using throwback, but you know what I mean.
I chucked half of them into the recycling (they have recyclable logos on them, never noticed that before) and will think on the remaining ones. I admit to having major problems with parting with containers, they are just so (theoretically/ potentially) Useful.
I also dug out a bag which I've decided I don't want and was giving it a wipe with a damp microfibre cloth (it had got a bit dusty) when I discovered that it needed a few stitches in one place, so was doing that back on 10 pm last night. I was fired-up with enthusiasm and wanted to get into more stuff, but told myself to go to bed, tomorrow is another day and I have to go to work as well. :rotfl:Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.
