FROGLETINA
No I don't remove things from my bag.
I only have an everyday crossover bag and a going out black leather bag.
I got rid all my other bags last year as I wasn't using them. Before MK.
I've said in a previous post I need my bag near me at all times.
I am a carer for a relative who lives nearby. So I need to grab n go pretty quickly. In it I have their keys and mine, mobile, cash ect and it stays beside my bed at night and near my front door during the day.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

I tend to use the same bag all the time and need things in it while I am in the house as well - tablets and shopping receipts/money to check and update my spreadsheets. My keys are permanently tied to my handbag by a lanyard, it stops me from losing them in the house!

I didn`t get up with the KM intention this morning but it happens and today I did the overstuffed shelves in the utility room, that plus some shelves in our large and bone dry insulated wooden building, too good to be called a shed but is a brilliant cavernous store. I have completely emptied and collapsed 3 large crates, the multi coloured ones that were so useful when moving and have packed another shopping trolley load for the cs, including all my left over electrical stuff that I used to set up a solar panel/lighting system for the shed. Why was I saving it all?
I cringe when I see the amount that is going but need to feel happy that it will be re-used elsewhere. Soldering iron, fuses, fuse boxes, wire strippers, cabling of all types. Oh well, even counting the total cost of too much, it was 1/4 the cost of getting someone in and I did a good job too
Little by little and not too much at a time means that I can cope physically and not underestimating the psychology of `money down the drain`0 -
My stuff has been a constant source of discord in my relationship from the moment we moved in together. OH also has a lot of stuff, about as much as me. However he absolutely will not acknowledge this in any shape or form. Well, actually that's not true. He'll say "yeah, I've got stuff, but NOT AS MUCH STUFF AS YOU!".
I am absolutely desperate to Konmari my entire house and all my belongings. I want to be set free from the clutter that has been clinging round my neck for all these years.
I also want to stop having the same argument with my OH over and over and over.
I've booked a day off work and not told him, I will drop the LO off at nursery as usual and going to spend an entire day tackling my carp head on. I'm going to do this 3 times, maybe a day every fortnight? on top of 'normal' tidying etc at weekends and I'm hoping that will be enough to make a massive dent in my stuff.
Anybody else done Konmari in a condensed time like that?
I kind of feel like I need to do it in secret, because if he's there, all the negative feelings about "my stuff" will be out in the open etc, making it harder to discard.0 -
Well I'm the last person to be giving relationship advice
(I was the one who threw her wedding dress over a cliff)
That was the result of 'secrets ' coming to the surface like they do.
So you could say you are going to get rid of your stuff and have no intention of touching his stuff. In a non confrontational way if possible.
He may in time see that this is a two way street expecting you to live in chaos but resisting you making life easier for the both of you
Good luck and keep coming on here for support.”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
Put on some lipstick
and pull yourself together”

I haven't done it myself but it sounds a good idea, turtlemoose! Good luck. I wonder how long it will take for your OH to realise you haven't got loads of "stuff" any more and that perhaps he'd better get rid of some of his....
I kondo'ed the cutlery drawer on Saturday. It now looks so nice that I have to keep having a look at it every time I'm in the kitchen.
Would you believe (I expect you would) that we had FIVE corkscrews?
I asked OH to choose his favourite corkscrew to keep. He chose two - one very basic one with a chunky wooden handle, the other a bit more "gadgety". He said he needs two because which one he would use would depend on how much his hands were hurting that day, so I felt I couldn't argue with that really.0 -
DawnW, yes, I would say I have been surprised and a bit ashamed at the amount of Stuff I have. And I have never been a hyper-consumer, nor wealthy, nor have I had much space for hoarding, and yet still it comes creeping out of the corners...........:(
There's a temptation to want to hold onto Stuff for security although, once one has got beyond a basic sufficiency, the stuff doesn't add to the feelings of security, it achieves the opposite.
We have the nice car we aspired to own, and get stressed about parking it in case it's stolen or vandalised. Our lovely home in a sought-after neighbourhood is on villains' radar as a place where the pickings are rich. We sleep nervously in our dream home, behind the burglar alarm needed to protect our treasures, worrying about the place when we leave it for a holiday or even for a few hours. Madness.
rosie383, what I do with the tracky bottoms is to lay them flat, one leg above the other, fold the excess cloth around the seat inwards to create a straight-legged rectangle, then fold the whole length in half, and either into one more half, or into thirds, depending on the height of the drawer.
Re the hubbies who aren't on-side, I'd try to resist the urge to meddle or criticise. Kondo your own space and stuff, and let theirs sit there, making it clear that you won't touch it, but neither will you allow their excess to move into your spaces. You may find that spontaneously KM has become contagious, at best. At the very least, you have avoided having the kind of argument which leaves a sour taste behind it and will leave the messier part of the couple feeling aggrieved.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

My front room is starting to look bigger
I've sold a big storage unit and a small desk, and that's given me space to move other things around so there's more floor and less to trip over!
Why didn't I think of this before?
Have to agree, I thought I cleared stuff out fairly often but there's still so much :eek:This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
GreyQueen I can quite understand why people don't use Cuprin0l Autumn Gold when they open the tin. Used it on my fence, its more like Dayglo Orange when it goes on, fades after a while though, fence is in back garden so only I can see it, still got half a tin to use next year, after that its brown all the way.
Yes, I shall use it all up and then go for a more conservative hue. It seems that the manufacturer is onto a loser with that shade, hmm? At least you know what the GQ lottie shed looks like - yeller.:rotfl:
The decluttering writer Don Aslett (I love his books, have decluttered one and lost two in the bookcase in Mum & Dad's cluttered living room) suggested from his experience as a painting contractor that you paint your whole home in a neutral for ease, sophistication and only having to have one pot of paint by you.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Anybody else find themselves just having ideas about storage for different things or thinking " That doesn't give me joy", even when not actually doing any Kondoing? :rotfl: The whole process really does make you realise what you can do without and what really brings you joy. Just can't wait to get the whole house done now.
On the subject of husbands/partners etc not quite buying into the whole process......what I am finding is that hubby is fine with some things, but not with others. He seems to have a different idea of something "bringing him joy". How on earth can 3 bottles of vodka, unopened and not even purchased by him (gifts), that have been in the cupboard for ages, actually spark joy? He doesn't hardly drink, especially since having a particular medical diagnosis last summer. Also, I just know that when we get on to the misc items like tools/cables/nails/bits of wood/tins of paint etc he will still want to keep them ...."just in case", but I want the whole house done, not just certain bits. Most of our "junk" is his in the first place and he has about 3 times more clothes than me and doesn't wear half of it. He has about 20 times more CD's and DVD's and doesn't watch or listen to any of them now as he downloads everything. How on earth will I get him to understand and get rid of them? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
