Almost finished bathroom cupboard - I have been busy doing other things at the same time - never content with just one job on the go! More towels a pillow ( maybe 2) and a duvet going out for S Army collection next week. DD2 has cleared out a large bag of stuff with lots still to go and this is destined for CS. OH suddenly decided to set to in his enormous workshop ( man cave) and has filled the wheelie bin with rubbish.....must be catching. Havent spoke to OH about the declutter as it is a sore point in this household and I ma better just getting along on my own rather than having someone 'helping' me. Sooooooo looking forward to the day I can say when are you getting rid of those boxes of mags/books/papers/computer bits/sports gear/tools/etc without feeling guilty about my own clutter :)

Have been thinking about my 'vision'.....will come back later with one :)

I have been working on the dining room extension today. I am not kondoing properly more decluttering and tidying. I have got rid of alot but all the paperwork and bits and pieces I came across have been put in boxes to sort out later. The drum kit that is used with the wii is off to the CS so that has made a bit more space so it looks better. I have reserved the book from the library and once I have read that I will kondo properly.

I went to bed last night with the lurgy and woke up this morning not much better so it has been a slow day. It has been lovely and sunny here too but couldn't face going out.

I was standing in the kitchen, when my eyes alighted on a cut glass decanter my darling but long departed aunt gave me. It goes in the cupboard or on the side, gets cleaned around but never used.

It had never occurred to me before to let it go (altogether now)

But I have washed it and thanked her for it, and have put it in the bag for the chazzer.

Better to let someone else enjoy it.

    Thank you
I wanna be in the room where it happens

    Another productive day here :)
The desk and big cupboard have sold and gone :)
A shelf unit removed from the sewing room ready to sell, leaving space for a small bookshelf and small cod - I should be able to get all my fabric into that :)
I've bought new pillows after reading the revolting article someone posted, the old ones are awaiting the bin men on Wednesday. They're going to wonder what I'm playing at - 6 huge bags last week and probably the same this week!
Have moved onto photos - I know it's too soon if I'm following KM to the letter, but they're temporarily in the little cod so I need to move them on, if that makes sense? Lots are in albums which OH has done of our holidays which definitely give me joy as he's gone to so much trouble labelling them, such lovely memories :)
    I think I've finished my bedroom! :T

If you have paint which you don't use, it can't go into domestic waste unless you leave it with the lid off long enough for it to dry out. If it's usable, you may be able to rehome it via Freegle/ Freecycle, or by a community project. Failing that, many local tips have a harzardous waste amnesty day, so if you have some well-dodgy Stuff in your shed, you may want to look out for that and trot along with it.

:o I was once clearing out the cubby at the folks where they keep the decor stuff and picked up a metal can of chrome cleaner, only gently, and my fingers went through the side. This stuff isn't inert, some of it is actually trying to escape its containers!

I've been rehoming unwanted paint from friends and relatives as my house needs redecorating throughout and the cost of paint for the whole place is breathtaking. I'm just doing a 'make it clean and cover the nastiest colours' effort this time round while I do the electrics/heating/plumbing/roof/bathrooms/floors/kitchen, so I'm not overly picky about colours. And anyway, it is taking FOUR coats to get a decent finish.

Some of the stuff I've been given has been full of rust, some has been solid, and one lot mouldy :s. However, most has been useable, and hopefully saved from landfill. Mind you, if anyone ever does analysis of the decorating regime in this place they'll be confused - it pretty much seems to be a coat of magnolia when built 30 years ago, and another coat of either green, pink or magnolia about 5 years later then NOTHING until now, when I've either had to remove the paint (no mist coat, so any silk paint applied to the original emulsion peels off) or have put two random coats of various neutrals on before applying the final colour.

So if anyone has any spare paint, feel free to drop it round...
  • It clicked today at last! I don't know if it was the fact that I'd formulated my "vision" this morning or just that it was such a bright sunny day - but it started to fall into place and feel easy.

Spent the afternoon Kondo-ing the shed & my son's "derelict" play house (he's 14 now). Play house is now cleared & ready for demolition when the time comes & shed is looking neat & tidy - albeit in need of repair. I filled a wheelie bin and I've identified a number of items in the shed to give away or sell.

While I was in the garden I started chatting to my neighbour about the book - she's very keen to give it a go too! A Konvert !

Well a good day today clearing out, although it wasn't strictly Kondoing. I have worked at home (as a self employed travel agent) for many years and last December I finally packed it in and got a "proper" job in care....just had enough of travel. Anyway, I had a little "office" set up in the alcove at the back of the dining room. Finally managed to sell the desk today and hubby delivered it while I sorted the room back to looking like a dining room. Wanted to move the sideboard and that meant emptying it, so actually did a bit of Konding....out of order though, as I haven't really got to misc section yet, but didn't want to spoil a chance to get rid of stuff. Hubby was not happy to get rid of any booze from the cupboard, but did agree in the end that the 3 different bottled of vodka didn't really give him joy as he doesn't actually drink them and 2 were not even opened! :rotfl: I did decide though that the lovely dinner set that is in the sideboard and only gets used on special occasions actually gives me a lot of joy and I think it will be used a lot more often from now on!

We have a lot of car boot stuff waiting to be sold and that is stashed behind the dining room door, so that was sorted out as well. Roll on the car boot season!

So now got another bag to take to CS tomorrow and 1 more for the tip, even though I only took some yesterday.

So a good day, even though I haven't actually finished the clothes yet and still got to do shoes and bags and the rest of hubby's side of the wardrobe. Hopefully get some more done during the week after work.

  • Well it took 6 and half hours to do the kids bedroom! For an eight year old and a 3 year old the amount of toys was a disgrace - however, I am dead proud of my stepdaughter as she waded in and didnt stop.

She kept loads of baby clothes to pass on/sell and I managed to get her to sort them out -result is 2 black bags for selling, 1 for passin on and .....drum roll.....8 black bin bags for rag man to see if she can get some cash.

Her front garden looks like Steptoes yard until she does a skip run and gets rid of it all.

There is a floor and all their toys are in boxes or drawers - I got the eldest one to colour in labels for her drawers with pictures of whats in them and she stuck them on each drawer - might help her tidy things up but we will see.....

Im totally exhausted but the kids were so happy - now its just the rest of her house to go!
Kondo'ed 76 items from wardrobe, 4 carrier bags of books

    I'm sorry I can't find it :(
It was about how many bugs live in our pillows :(

Hopefully someone else will remember and find a link?
