Lost car key - help

Don't forget there are still some honest people around who find keys and hand them in to a police station.
Every station has a drawer full - give them a ring - you might be in luck.0 -

Already done it :-(
You never know they may be with the car park people, but it's not managed it's just random parking attendents (from the council) who drive there & check.
I'll try other local offices too, tomorrow when they are open.0 -
May be worth getting intouch with a local mechanic or auto locksmith, there are trained people who can use a special tool to tell which tumblers are where etc, make a key for the door to be unlocked manually then attempt one for the ignition and if you get a good one they should have a few blank keys make specific with them. but don't know if anyone can do seats as theyre a bit funny about auto locksmiths and blank keys getting out. when I worked at a garage standard procedure was opening the car with some wedges in the door and a bendy metal device being slid inside to open the door using indoor handle so owner could obtain the v5 and go and get a key from the dealer. No man is your friend, No man is your enemy. If you have RAC or similar cover, they will attend if you are locked out - so you could retrieve the V5 at least .0

I do have RAC, I didn't call them because unlocking the car is no good if I cant relock.
How do they unlock?
I would have to have the key guaranteed & leave someone sitting in the car while I went off to get it.0 -
In fact, RAC or recovery service, if you have one, might well recover it to dealer for you. You can usually relock a car manually without a key, using the door buttons -I have always managed to lock my keys in my cars doing similar!
They use a bit of nylon tape and some small wedges, generally no damage to car although you do have to provide a disclaimer if they scratch the car.
There are auto locksmiths who offer mobile services a little cheaper than main dealers, google your location and "lost car key" or "car locksmith" to see if there are any operating in your area.
Main dealers are around £200 for German marques, Suzuki possibly less, especially older fobs, but will need to be "coded" to the car with a computer.0 -

There is no way of locking without the key or the buttons on the key. There are none of the old style buttons to push down or anything.
Will a local auto locksmith be able to do the programming then?0 -
Just checked car insurance, key cover is an optional extra & I didn't take it.
It was renewed recently & I didn't even check the cover.
I still may take it out, it's £30 & includes 3 weeks car hire in the event of theft.0 -
Unfortunately, you're looking at getting the car broken into professionally, steering lock deactivated mechanically or the car lifted, recovered to a dealer, and new keys ordered, cut and coded (that's if a key can be coded without an already working one - some supposedly can't and the dealer will then sell you a new ECU and lockset at £800+).
Whichever way you spin it, by the time you're done with break-in, recovery charges, parts, and labour you could well be looking at the thick end of a thousand quid to sort it.0
