I'd clear that, and start talking to agents about your situation. If you have a decent income then it shouldn't be too hard to find something to start off with.
You don't need to buy a new sofa, get something on freecycle or for a small cost on ebay. Use the money towards debts, and get a new sofa later on.
Im planning on having the CCJ cleared in the next couple of months but from what ive read, a recently settled CCJ is still a big no no as far as landlords are concerned. Only going by some of the posts on here from people being rejected by estate agents for having a CCJ evn though it was settled a year plus ago.
I understand your point with not needing a new sofa. But £500 for a new one is not going to break the bank. Link Ive said, we do ok for money and our debts will be clear in the next 2 months. Its the fact that we both have had a CCJ which is our major stumbling block0 -
You may need to find a private LL who looks at affordability rather than doing a credit check? Maybe only do a 6 month let so you have time to save up for a better place later.
And think about doing some decluttering and selling stuff, plus avoiding buying ANYTHING not absoutely necessary. Go over to forums like the debt free and old style and do things like the no -spend challenge.
If you can afford more than a month rent up front, you stand more chance. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
You have a combined income of £64000 but no savings. Time for a serious look at your celebrities. Download a SOA and keep a daily record of your spending for the next 2 months . It will show what you can afford
We only don't have much savings as we have been clearing our debts. We are saving now and have £2000 saved up and we are saving £1500 a month. Its the fact that we have to move in the next 2 months that is causing our predicament. If we had time then we would be saving for a deposit on a house but that's not an option at the moment. We will continue to save so we can by in the next 2-3 years but we need to move now and renting is our only option but failing the credit check on a rental property would be a disaster0 -

If applying as a family I agree, but surely she could do it as a solo applicant?
Without being funny, a single person can comfortably live on 20k0 -

Let's get to basics?
Where is your deposit secured? Were you given the correct prescribed information within the required deadline? Was it re-issued if required?
Fixed term or periodic current tenancy? If fixed when does it end?
When was your Section 21 notice issued? What is the end date of that notice? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

The OP has said they are living with family, not likely to be a deposit, agreement etc.0 -

I think she takes home around £1400 a month. To rent a house we are looking at around £1200. A 2 bed apartment around £800-900. This is in the area close to my daughters school and wifes work. It would be a little cheaper to rent further out but we only have the one car. If we live outside that area we would then need a second car which would obviously cost more factoring the cost of the car, tax, insurance etc. My wifes wage alone would not be enough to satisfy an estate agent that she could afford to rent.0 -

I am currently living with my parents but we have been here nearly a year now and my parents have plans for the house and need us out. They agreed originally to let us stay there for a year but that's it.0 -

I believe the OP lives with his wife and child in his parents home. Already left the rental property.0 -
Original LL reference, Parents ref and/or guarantor. Parents may even be willing to give you a temporary cash sum to give you a better chance to get the cheapest FLAT in sch/work area. Then pay back parents/ reduce debts/save save save for 2 or 3 years to get what you want with better credit history anew.0
