Looking at the tread, those who actually
had the system loved it ..... couple for over 25 years

I love mine, nobody else does, and if I want to sell my house it has to go.

If I was staying I would keep it.

The chief complaint about them in the UK is their high gas consumption as their burners and hot water heaters are rather old technology these days.

    Exactly.

And they still have gas guzzling pilot lights.

It would cost more to upgrade my system than ripping it out and starting over with radiators.
over 73 but not over the hill.

Well it won't cost that now.

It will still be considerably cheaper than a new wet system. I was quoted over £5000 at that time to have radiators and a boiler in my other house.
my servicing for the warm air is two thirds the cost of the wet system.
plus the new models don't need pilots, have electronic air cleaning and summer air switch giving cool air throughout the house.
strangely enough I can't sell the house with radiators :rotfl:
I am sure that's nothing to do with having radiators though.

Not if SG is doing it and they are the only company in my area who do.
    £250 a year.

I also contacted J&S about updating, they got a company 40 miles away to contact me, never heard back.

Not according to my info, they have peizo electric lighting but that only lights the pilot light.

Amazingly British gas quoted me £8000 for a new wet system. Good job we have plenty of other options :rotfl::rotfl:
Maybe I am wrong with J&S not having pilot free, :o I did think they were doing it but there are other companies doing warm air pilot free that's for sure.
I have a place near Inverness, I don't have gas there so can't have gas warm air heating lol
obviously if the place one lives is not local to the company then sometimes you just can't have the best option.
I had to settle for oil and a wood burner.

The latest Johnson and Starley Warmair C (condensing) units do indeed have electronic ignition and no pilot light. In fact they have a thororoughly up to date modulating 'heat engine' as seen on many modern combis, as well as the modulating distribution fan they have always had. They are most likely in the region of 25% more economical with gas than the older units with conventional burners which have a fixed burner pressure setting.

They have also included electrostatic air filtering which improves the removal of 'nasties' from the circulating air.

At this point I have to disappoint peeps and admit I have never actually seen one in action or otherwise. I have just been reading the spec. sheet on their web site. They do an upflow and a downflow model and a third that does hot water. They are a perfect slot in replacement for an older J&S.

Fifteen years ago we had to rip warm airs out of three blocks of flats. There was nothing wrong with the Warm Airs, but the built in concrete flueways in the flats had started to leak fumes and the cost of repair was almost the same as putting in a combi and six radiators.....and the J&S units were already 30 years old. Shame really.

Would anyone like to guarantee a modern wet boiler for more than ...20years!

There is a previous thread on here where someone had worked on a pilotless J&S . I thought I had read it somewhere so thanks for confirming :T.
