Solo Holiday Experiences

I'm massive tempted by a walking trip to the Austrian Tirol. I see that both Exodus and Explore do them. I'm just trying to work out whether the end of June or sometime in August are the better months for a sensible walking temperature and low rainfall, although I'm not sure there's much in it. I might just have to gamble it.
Holiday planning is fun!!!!!0 -
Hi all, I just wanted to update that I have been to Paris and back solo! I survived and I really enjoyed it. I guess it's nice to have someone with you to share the experience and I had a lot of memories of going with my ex so that made me a little nostalgic while on the way there but I was so busy concentrating on where I was going and what I wanted to see,eat and do that the nostagia passed. I got a little lost at times as my sense of direction isn't the greatest but I realised I was going the wrong direction pretty quickly. I don't think I would have felt uncomforatble walking into a shop to ask for directions.
When I looked a bit confused, people would come and ask if I was ok (first in French, then in English!) Thats the first time I've been to Paris and people haven't got stroppy I don't speak French. It's definitely a good place to test the waters
I walked almost everywhere, which was a bit of a waste of a £10 day travelcard but the fact I had it meant I knew I didn't have to worry about buying tickets.
I hope whoever else is going on their own has a good time too!0 -

So pleased you had a nice time & everything went well
Onwards & upwards so too speak - where to next?.What came first, the music or the misery?
Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?0 -

Ahh, thanks
Currently hovering my finger over confirming a week in Seoul.
Accommodation deposit is paid, just need to pay for flights. I'll probably chicken out again...0 -

It is a giant leap but I've researched and researched and I've been to so many other Asian countries so I hope that will stand me in good stead. I get bored in Europe so quickly and it's so expensive that if I'm going to spend a lot of money I want to be somewhere I really want to be.
I did chicken out last night but I booked when I got to work this morning. Now instead of willing myself into booking, I'm slightly freaking out that I've booked it!
I'm flitting between 'Yay, I've finally booked' and 'OMG what have I done!'

Good for you- the more time you think about booking it the more doubts creep in
, so well done for taking the plunge - of course the "what have i done" thoughts will be there.
I'm sure your previous experiences in Asia will help - will language be an issue? can't see Seoul having that many English speakers - though i might be wrong.
How long are you going for ?What came first, the music or the misery?

Hi
My mum is currently on holiday in Spain on her own but with a tour group. She enjoys seeing different parts of the world but she doesn't have a partner to travel with so she finds the groups work well for her because she doesn't have to worry about the travel arrangements.
She is a keen gardener so she's been on a couple of Gardeners World cruises visiting tropical gardens. She enjoyed it because she was with other people interested in gardening so something to talk about !

I've travelled a lot on my own starting with going to the South of France on my own when I eighteen and working there for a couple of months.
Since then I've travelled to Greece, Israel, the Sinai Desert and India on my own and also took my son to India just before his third birthday.
I really enjoyed travelling on my own and got to know lots of people on my travels.
I must admit that sadly I wouldn't have the confidence to do it anymore (I'm nearly fifty three now) but nolonger have much inclination to travel following illness.
Just go for it.
I'm sure you won't regret it and you can always come home. Here dead we lie because we did not choose
To live and shame the land from which we sprung.
Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose,
But young men think it is,
And we were young.

I think that is something that happens when you travel solo. I think when you are with someone else the locals often think you are in your own little bubble. IME when you are on your own people tend to approach you a lot more and chat. I've always assumed that is why so many travel writers travel alone.
It is great reading all the posts as I want to travel more in the next few years.0
