What happened with the dispute code? have you contacted them again and asked the question re: replacement (and paying more if necessary)?

We have not done this yet as far as i'm aware. My mother would have to do this though right?, as she holds the consumer rights?

Technically yes. But if they've already accepted the "gift" nature and are dealing with you then you may be able to work it through.

Ok thanks so are our hands tied then until they ring us about repair? and if so, can we then use SOGA and ask for store credit? I'm not after a refund, just a different tv, i'm even willing to pay more to get it.
Forget the credit get a refund. There are plenty of deals currently out there to spend your money on, some with 5 year warranties included.

.....We were told instore that that guarantee was null and void as soon as we opened the tv. How was we supposed to know if the tv was any good just by looking at an unopened box? ...

    Crossed wires I think

1/ Your guarantee in NOT void if you merely opened the BOX

2/ It would be null and void if you opened the TV itsself

3/ Currys "satisfaction" return policy (if they have one) could be null and void if you open the box

not sure whether you mis-heard or whether your Currys school leaver mis quoted you

personally haven't shopped with Currys for at least 20 years
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?

We set the tv up, thats when we were aware of how bad the picture was, surprised as it was a Samsung. We heard right, they said it was deferred to allow us to test if the telly was ok. I've since phoned them and they seem to be trying to help now. Will find out tomorrow. I'll go to the ombudsman if needs be.

Just as a matter of interest

Do you have a freeview aerial and/or signal booster

My first Digital Freeview TV was lousy picture until i bought a freeview aerial & signal booster

Ditto when my parent had their first digital TV - didnt need an new aerial but had to fit a signal booster

Yeah did a test on all of it, tested it through sky, xbox, dvd etc.. just a strange contrast issue which all other samsung tv's don't have. Just a bad model i think.

Or a bad default setup? (Or it was set to Store mode). Could the settings not be altered to give a good picture?

So did Currys confirm it was a fault then?

No fault confirmed but the same model in store looks just as bad. It wasn't in store mode either. Trust me i went through it with a fine tooth comb, just couldn't get it right.

Anyway it has been sorted now and currys issues store credit when i threatened to escalate. Shouldn't have had to go that far. Got an LG on order now.
