Anyone got any experience of Three Mobile's app Three in Touch that lets you call and text via Wi-Fi when there’s no mobile signal?

Seems like great idea but does it work okay?

I have had it on my phone since they introduced it.

NB - we live in a rural area with only 2MB speed internet :(

After about a month, I disabled it as it was a bag of poo!

There has finally been an update but in all honesty, I've not even bothered trying it since.

Have you read the reviews on The Play Store?

I gave up on it fairly quickly as well. Sound quality was bad, there was no way to control notifications and it seemed to deactivate itself quite regularly when the phone went to sleep.

As it was, it was pretty much a waste of time as an app that could be relied on.

I will take a look at the Play Store out of interest - I'm a Windows phone man myself and the app would have been for my daughter-in-law who lives in the wilds of Herefordshire.

It perhaps would have been worth her trying the app anyway (especially as it's free) were in not for the fact that she would have to buy a new phone as her current Samsung is running an old Android OS.

So thanks for the useful comments - just saved £100 +.

I use it at home due to a poor signal within the house and the home signal box has a habit of cutting out.

It's been good for me on phone calls. Text messages are okay but are stored within the app so separate to your normal texts which is a pain. I mostly use whatsapp to message.

Sound quality isn't great - like using the O2 network.

    I can control notifications fine.

Doesn't deactivate if you switch wi-fi to always on in phone settings and if still issues, the app has an actual setting to keep the wi-fi connection live but uses more battery.

Better than nothing but not as good a real coverage or even a signal box.

You have a single tone for calls and another for texts without a choice, you can't use any others.

Even with the app set to always awake it still dropped the connection on occasion.

It was pretty dismal TBH, but it is better than no signal, as you say. The new version might be better, but I can't check it, I moved to a network with better coverage,

Certainly does. Eventually got there via Three's website.

Nearly one third of reviews give it one star out of five ...'nuff said!

Moving networks is not an option (unless they have a similar, but better app on PAYG) as none of the networks seem able to provide a reliable signal at this location.
