Want to cancel with O2, when should i send cancellation letter?

I can understand why as the retentions team is basically level 2 sales and their job is to keep you, but calling is the quickest way and just tell them you only want PAC number. The problem is the OP doesn't want to ring them or use the chat service
The OP could email them, they will try and tell you to call retentions as that's the only way to get PAC number, but i think OFCOM state that this can be requested in a letter/email.0 -
I agree phone is quicker and easier but as the OP makes no mention of using a PAC and just wants to write. I would write ensuring the minimum 30 days notice is given asking the contract to be ceased at end of minimum term.I can understand why as the retentions team is basically level 2 sales and their job is to keep you, but calling is the quickest way and just tell them you only want PAC number.

That could be sent before the minimum 30 days start and sent recorded of course to just to cover themselvesIt's not just about the money0 -
Apparently OFCOM dont involve themselves in such matters now, at least thats what i've heard! Also, not fussed about PAC as dont really want to keep my number. It seems that if i want to give 30days notice so that the termination is exactly on the 7th February (or a day or so before) i need to send the letter immediately. If i sent the letter in February as i started thinking then i'd essentially be giving them 30days from Feb-March which i dont want.
Im thinking at worst i'll be charged for this bill plus 5-8% extra as some sort of 'fee'.0 -

No i think its part of their licence agreement to issue a PAC on request via any medium, but they just want people to call retentions to try and keep you as a customer0 -
I'd say phone them as the call is free and thus cheaper than a stamp.
They won't try to engage you in long conversation if you sound quite decisive about leaving, as compared to someone trying to bargain with them for a new deal.
The notice can be given in advance of the date, so as you surmise that means do it soon.
And as well, you can apply for a PAC, probably not today but in a few days time, and you can use it before the contract date, and the contract ends when the PAC is used.
These things were certainly the case about 4 years ago, and I don't think they've changed, but
that's another reason to call them, as they can advise on those points including the earliest date you can apply for a PAC.0 -
There would be no point in ordering the PAC a few days later as that would remove the cancellation notice given.

Unless the OP intended to use a PAC, which can be applied for any time during the contract, the contract would continue unless the PAC was usedIt's not just about the money0 -
Of course the PAC can be applied for at any time, and it's true that the contract will continue if it's not used, but the suggestion I gave ends the contract the soonest without paying more than necessary0

It's true it would be sooner but the OP would then have to obtain an active number to port to. I don't get the impression the OP intends to keep the number.Of course the PAC can be applied for at any time, and it's true that the contract will continue if it's not used, but the suggestion I gave ends the contract the soonest without paying more than necessaryIt's not just about the money0
