Want to cancel with O2, when should i send cancellation letter?

Hi all!

My upgrade date for O2 is coming up (The whole 'Upgrade 1 month early on O2 refresh!') but i just want to flat out cancel my contract as i got a better deal elsewhere, i would just like to know when i should send the cancellation letter without invoking any nasty fees. My FIRST bill was Feb 09th 2013 and so my FINAL bill should be 09th Jan 2015, to cover up to February, right?

If that's correct, when should i send the cancellation letter stating that im giving 30 days notice to cancel? I think it would have to be sent immediately but im not too sure.

Any information is appreciated! :D

(To save you time and effort with your replies, its a letter i want to send to them, i dont want to be dealing with their chat service to do this, or phonecalls)

I started a thread asking this question today but regarding Vodafone

I don't know if it is the same for O2, maybe someone can confirm?

From the info I was given by other forum members, if you want to keep your number and port it to another network you don't need to write a cancellation letter, you just get a PAC and port out after your minimum term is up and they create a final bill with charges ending the day you port out.

If you tell them you want to cancel they will terminate your account after 30 days and you'll lose the number.

Ignore the bills. It's the connection date which is the end of the minimum term.

If its the connection date, would that be the day i applied for the contract or the day i popped the sim card into the handset?

It makes no difference when you first use the service, you would still have been paying for the service whether you used it or not
It's not just about the money

I realize that, i started using the service as soon as the handset and sim arrived so theres no issue there. I was just wondering, as per mobilejunkie's reply if the connection date is the day i applied for the contract or the day i popped the sim into the phone.

If you took out the contract in Jan and didn't use the sim till March you would still be charged from Jan not March

...At first i couldnt find it. But i think i have now.

What i found was: Contract Renewal Date: 07th Feb 2015 <- Is that what you refer to? If so, i assume this is the date the contract's minimum term expires?

Sorry if i seem a bit stupid with this but just want to make sure i get it right :D

yes that will be it. If you want to keep your number let this date pass, so you fulfill your contract the call o2 retentions team on 0800 028 8151 and ask for PAC number so you can take your number to another provider

The problem is the OP doesn't want to ring them or use the chat service
