Big holiday win dilemma

It's also worth bearing in mind jetlag coming back from Oz can be crippling - I went straight back to work the day after I got back and I was pretty much in a fog for nearly a week- I wouldn't have wanted to be studying for anything vital to my future in that week.
Really? It's never affected me or my wife at at all. Get back on Sunday, back at work Monday fresh as a daisy.
If anything, it's worse going the other way.0 -
"can be" is the point.
IF she can sleep on the plane
IF she adjusts quickly
IF there are no delays to make it even longer
I don't get the impression from the OP that long haul travel is routine to her -so it really doesn't matter what your experience was -everyone is different and it is something to take into account -assuming she's going to be "as fresh as a daisy" (yeah right lol) and can trip into school for a graded assessment for example could cause a lot of problems with results.
I can and have regularly flown in from west coast USA and gone to work the same evening when I've needed to but I don't assume everyone can . I also avoid scheduling certain types of meetings but I guess it depends what kind of work you do..... I'm assuming you're not a surgeon or anything where not been at the top of your game isn't catastrophic
If she has non conditional offers it isn't so bad so long as the headmaster doesn't just give a blanket no (which is his perogative with 6th formers and if he feels it could affect her results and by extension their league standing or create an undesirable precedent with other less able students hoofing off on holiday mid term) Non compulsory education can be tricky so good luck with the meeting OP.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Surely it will depend upon when her exams are - get those dates before making decisions! She can't postpone the exams - unless she is prepared to wait another 6 months before taking them - and then paying for them herself.0

I would also wonder if an 18 year old would be ok on a trip to Australia. Would she be able to cope if anything went wrong.., will she be self reliant enough to organise travelling once she's in Australia. Who is she going with?
 whatever happened to the obligatory gap year, seeing the world with just a rucksack?!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

Exactly! What a fantastic experience to have. With the results already achieved I'd say she is one smart cookie and will be able to study during the holiday.
6th form is pretty relaxed anyway with a lot of self motivation expected. I remember both my kids being pretty nocturnal then - studying most of the night and somnambulant most of the day! Jet lag won't really be an issue for her as it would for someone with a 9 - 5 job.
Congratulations and hope they both have a fabulous time. :T0 -
Her AS redults were AAAB last year. She is up to date with course work etc. this is a once in a life time opportunity. She already has a couple of pending places at uni. Will let you know the outcome today adter the headmaster visit. Forgot to mention she is going with her dad
Really? She's 17 - that gives her a long time to go on other holidays. Is a holiday really worth more than her A level results and possibly university place?0 -

Oddly enough, flying back from the west coast of the USA has us completely wrecked! Flying there is no problem.
No, I'm not a surgeon... I'm an air traffic controller.
Just joking!0 -

I would also double check the T&Cs for the comp. Most holiday wins are not transferrable (ie the winner has to travel)! Have you discussed with them? Fingers crossed!
Jx2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
Personally I would not dream of missing any of an A level year. What dates are we talking about? What are her subjects?
Teachers will have planned the curriculum to cover the syllabus and allow for practice papers, revision etc. In some subjects eg languages, constant practice is needed. In others, there may still be practicals or coursework to complete.
It is not just a question of missing lessons, it is effectively 10 days out of her work routine.
I assume you have checked that the T &C allow the prize to be transferred and you cannot postpone the dates.0
