Big holiday win dilemma

Ok so i was very lucky to win an oz trip with accomodation etc. my mum is not well enough to look after my children so i have given my plane ticket go my dd as it falls on her 18th birthday. Trouble is taking her out of school as we have fixed dates. Can the schools still fine you as she will be nearly 18. She is an A grade student and doing well in her studies. Would be a shame to forfeit her ticket. Any advice how to get her out of school for 8 days please tia x

You won't be fined as she's not subject to compulsory education.
However, the school has much more flexibility about simply throwing her out, as they are much less obliged to teach her. So you should talk to them.
Losing two weeks' education in the run up to A Levels, as it would appear you are contemplating, doesn't seem ideal.0 -
I would have thought that taking time out from school in the final year of A Levels would be an extremely bad idea. Isn't there anybody else who could go?0

How many days would she lose and when in the run up to A levels eg which month ?I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

She will lose 7.5 school days0

But when will she lose them ? Is it a time core topics are still taught ?
Is she very academic so could catch up - A level year is pretty tough.
Has she spoken to her teachers in these specific subjects ........what were her mock results like or is she sitting them when they go back.
Whilst I agree it's a fantastic chance for her - essentially it's a holiday and if going is going to compromise her chances to get onto her uni course of choice then it is a case of is a 2 week holiday worth having to repeat a year before uni.
A lot ,to me, would depend on her predictions and how well she is keeping up with the work . I'd suggest she has a frank discussion with her tutors about how much damage a trip could do.
This to me is far more important than whether a fine might happen.
It's also worth bearing in mind jetlag coming back from Oz can be crippling - I went straight back to work the day after I got back and I was pretty much in a fog for nearly a week- I wouldn't have wanted to be studying for anything vital to my future in that week.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I would definitely let her go and if you were to be fined (I doubt she would be), then tell her DD to save just in case to contribute towards it. Unless her A levels are such that the trip is certain to compromise the results, I would think this is a chance of a lifetime for her. If she is a studious pupil, I would think the excitment and gratitude will mean she will work double hard to make sure it doesn't affect her studies.0

Depending on when the trip is.., even a month would be more than enough time to make up standard lessons, but obviously if its just before exams.., and revision lessons are taking place, this could be more important.
I would also wonder if an 18 year old would be ok on a trip to Australia. Would she be able to cope if anything went wrong.., will she be self reliant enough to organise travelling once she's in Australia. Who is she going with?0 -
Her AS redults were AAAB last year. She is up to date with course work etc. this is a once in a life time opportunity. She already has a couple of pending places at uni. Will let you know the outcome today adter the headmaster visit. Forgot to mention she is going with her dad0
