There are many dangers in buying part-worn or "second hand" tyres. Their history is unknown and they may have been removed from a vehicle involved in an accident or have been badly damaged by 'kerbing' or similar problems, i would always say go for New Tyres especially if you are carry Kids or other family members.
I know it's just my advice but Part worn tyres horrify me.
(And yes i have worked in the tyre industry so i have a some knowledge of what i am talking about)

Your opinion, which your entitled to, mines different.......What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0 -
What are you're thoughts on Budget & mid range tyres. I heard there are some ok ones and some complete garbage. I never used to pay too much attention to tyres when it was just me in car. Now I've 3 kids in car with me I always make sure I've plenty of tread but it's always good to get advice from someone involved in that industry.0

Personally i'd far rather put on an almost new quality tyre than a cheap budget one made in some far east garage somewhere.
People in the tyre business, like any other business, will always try to sell you their expensive product & some will use scaremongering tactics in the process like 'child safety' etc...
As for the 'plenty of tread', well that's why there is a legal limit for it which you shouldn't go under...........What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0 -
I wouldn't use part worn either yet the flashy cars & taxis I see getting them as I drive past suprises me - I bought 4 new Kumho tyres recently after doing a bit of research online they are rated higher than Chinese brands but not as good as say Goodyear however the price about £25 each suited meTheres only two rules to remember1) Im always right2) See rule 10

I had bought budget tyres some time ago called TIGAR from a local large tyre retailer and I was not impressed with them at all. I recently used an online outfit called Hometyre to replace them. I told them roughly what I was prepared to spend and they recommended a tyre called Maxxis. I did some homework online on these tyres and they seemed to get good write up, think they're similar in quality to Kuhmo. Haven't had them on long but grip is excellent and they seem quieter. Won't know for a while what theyre like in terms of mileage.0

Was recommended to refer to Which online for advice on loads of things including tyres. That's where is read up on the maxxis tyre. Worth a look0

Has anyone tried ordering tyres online and got them fitted around belfast, any ideas of the prices for this service? I've got a few quotes that are coming in at around £20 a corner for fitting/balancing/ new valve/old tyre disposal. Is it really that expensive to get this done or is it a way of making sure people just buy their tyres. Any experiences appreciated.0

Ideally people we would need a selection of quotes across a range of tyres which includes fitting, balancing and disposal...otherwise all these...."found them great"......"would recommend them" are not informative nor useful........!
Whose gunna do the research?!.....:)

Hometyre replaced my tyres and I would recommend you give them a shout.0
