Well, when i see someone that has just joined & their first 3 posts are recommending one firm, dragging up threads that are over two years old, it rings dodgy alarm bells. If i'm wrong then i'll apologize but time, i've no doubt, will tell on that score........
Edit.... Oh! and please don't PM me again, if you have anything to say just say it on the thread........What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0 -
no worries. Just joined today & this was my first topic. only realised once I posted it that the original question is 2 years old if that gives you an idea of how much of a novice I am at this.
Best Regards :beer:0 -
Well, while this threads here... I've been using Tyre Bay in Glengormley, buying 'part worn' from them. These are like brand new & top quality makes like Michelin, Continental, Pirelli etc... approx £20 for a tyre that'll last far longer than buying a brand new cheap make at double the price....
And no, i don't work for them............:D

Used to run part worns years ago and worked ok for me but was warned only to use if you can get a matching set with decent tread. Apparently different tread patterns can affect car handling in wet conditions. There are some real rubbish budget tyres out there and I even heard that the dreaded remould is making a comeback. £20.00 for a branded part worn is probably good value. consistent supply would be only concern.0

This maybe applied years ago when there was the radial/cross-ply tyres but not now. In an ideal world you would have 4 matching tyres on your car but unless it's straight out of a showroom then it's highly unlikely this is the case. What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about !!!0 -

I can't believe any one is cheap enough to use Part Worn tyres!!
There are many dangers in buying part-worn or "second hand" tyres. Their history is unknown and they may have been removed from a vehicle involved in an accident or have been badly damaged by 'kerbing' or similar problems, i would always say go for New Tyres especially if you are carry Kids or other family members.
I know it's just my advice but Part worn tyres horrify me.
(And yes i have worked in the tyre industry so i have a some knowledge of what i am talking about)

I've bit the bullit and ordered 2 bridgestone tyres through a good company on-line and also got another 5% off through a well known voucher site. I agree that part worns are highly dangerous.
2 tyres fitted next week and £100 cheaper all in than a quote from rip off merchants Kwik Fit !!!0
