We will have to agree to differ on the list title, as I went by the text shown in the title, whether car or bike, higher risk areas are higher risk areas, the OP said he had moved 5 mins walk, here in Brum, you can have say B8 (referal area) and then cross the A4040 and the postcode is B36 which is a group D, likewise B23 referal area cross the A452 and it's B76 group C, some of the B8 area falls into surveys of one of the highest not insured area in the country. I don't know where the OP is from but he may have oved across the line. Although it works other ways too, I pre ordered a taxi to the airport £18 then a change of plan was going from my mate's 1 mile away but in a more affluent area and the taxi price jumped to £28 if anything it was closer to the airport from his house.

I'm very familiar with using the Aviva rating guide, without any doubt that is their rates for motorbikes.

Just to show you how little relation it bore to the Aviva private car rating areas when it was current. Your motorbike link has seven rating areas. At the same time the Aviva car consisted of sixteen rating areas.

Insurers don't publish their rating areas now days (Which is probably why the website uses such an out of date guide). Insurers now use the first five or digits or even the first six digits to rate a post code. The link uses the first three/four.

A motorcycle Insurer will now use about 16 rating areas with a typical private car insurer using upwards of thirty.

Motorcycle and private car tend to be rated completely differently as the issues that lead to most claims are not really related.

Motorbikes tend not to do much damage to other property or people but tend to be stolen a lot and also suffer from own damage.

Cars tend to do a lot of expensive damage to other property and people and also require repairs for own damage. Theft of cars is a relatively small risk and now days due to increased vehicle security tends to cluster around affluent postcodes. This is because the thieves tend to target the type of executive cars found in exclusive post codes especially if those post codes are close to very rough post codes.

If you posted up the rating areas for a Home Contents Insurer you would find they correlate with the motorcycle rating areas as they also tend to be driven by theft as a rating factor.

    Hi

I passed my full car license April 2014 bought Peugeot 106 2001 1.1 L and the insurance quotes was starting from £3500 , £265 a month, Now i move houses about 5 min walk and they saying it will be now £345 a month for a car that is worth £500 i just cant afford it:mad: I am 22 and have 3 years no claim on my motorbike insurance but no one want to know. Does any one have any suggestions ? I was thinking get new car on finance but the insurance will kill me.

    Thanks
Assuming your insurance runs to April its possible they've raised your premium because they can. You're unlikely to leave and lose this years ncb. Try getting quotes at your new address with 1 years ncb as a guide to what you will have to pay for the next year.

I just put car insurance by postcode there were several hits with similar listings, obviously the readers will know their own localities, just had another look on askMID. As said the 5 min walk from the OP is where the £100 a month may come from.

Do you realise that most car insurers have set their websites up to try and reduce quote massaging and stop their competitors. So if you enter quote details and then keep changing the postcode it has an effect of the prices that are returned?

What has the askMID got to do with how Insurers rate post codes?

The link you provided would be accurate for someone wanting to know how Aviva rated motorbike post codes ten years ago. It would also give a fairly good indication of in what post codes you were most likely to have your motorbike stolen ten years ago.

In relation to how car Insurers rate post codes now days it's pretty hit and miss especially on the more affluent post codes which would show as low risk on the old motorbike postal areas but have a good chance of being rated much higher now days on car insurance

So I'm not sure where you get motorcycle list from?

Indeed. It's on the internet, so it must be true.

So that means everything Car 54 posts is inaccurate also?

I agree certain cars in certain areas may attract a loading, in Sutton Coldfield Audi's and BMWs were targetted by thieves with some going to great lengths to 'take' what they wanted to steal. But yes my last GF here old Fiesta in a rural postcode is more to insure than my Golf in a busy city than me.

Do you realise the purpose of that website is not to give advice on car insurance. It's purpose is to receive payments for introducing people to comparison websites.

They've copied and pasted most of their information from other websites.

See if you recognise any of this information on thhttp://www.insurancebootcamp.co.za/docs/ib_motor_slides_2012.pdfis website

They've done the same thing with the post code rates by just copying and pasting them. They did not even have the sense to remove the bit about motorbikes.

Incidently the website does not even appear to be registered and regulated by the FCA which says a lot about the website.
