O2 Cancellation

Hi,

I have ordered LG G3 on O2 refresh. on Friday which is due to be delivered tomorrow.

Afew questions - how it will work - Never done this before. I understand I can cancel contract once I have paid the amount for the device.
  • How long it takes for unlock code to come through?
  • Once unlock code has been received - Can I pay the full amount for the device and cancel the contract?
  • Obviously bill will be produced - I am sure whatever they take out on DD - It will be refunded back to me once the next bill has been produced.

Thanks
MS

    its simple

lets used the 500MB plan as an example

it is £28 a month split as £15 for the phone and £13 for the airtime.
so you can upgrade early by paying the phone £15 x 24 = £360 and this will reduce you bill to £13 a month for the airtime, which you will be tied too for the 24 months

you however have 14 days to cancell the contract and owe them nothing, but the phone would have to be returned

No, the contract can be cancelled anytime with 30 days' notice and without any fees. That's why it's called 'Refresh'.

You can - with 30 days' notice.

so once again MSE are right and a company wrong

this works the same as Tesco anytime upgrade and just means you can upgrade your phone anytime while keeping the same airtime plan without penalties as long as you payoff the cost of the remaining phone

Two days for the Lumia 1020 I had. I used the online form - https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form

Yes. in fact you may be above to do it before but I waited on the code arriving. Its done there and then when you call and if you call 202 from the phone it skips some security as O2 know the number it came from.

Many of the people who got the Lumias got charged the full termination fee, and then got it back, I stopped the DD before they took anything and shoved £10 on the account so I had covered the 4 days use it could be, but they refunded it all inc the four days so the line rental cost 1p and that's probably down to VAT rounding.

I don't see where they say explicitly that the minimum term is 24 months and that you can't cancel without fees. In fact, I am not even sure that 30 days notice is required.

the term is for the phone, but if you through the process of a phone order it gives not insite into how the plan works.

a normal contract is 24 months with phone and airtime, which you are tied for the full 24 months and even if you have early upgrade you have to change phone and airtime plan, but with o2 refresh and tesco anytime upgrade it allows you yo upgrade your phone anytime within the 24 month contract as long as you pay the phone off without effecting the airtime plan, which i think is a good idea but as far as i am aware only o2 and tesco do this at the moment

    Thanks for all your replies.

gjchester, I have gone through O2 chat and they have requested unlock code - just to make the process much more quicker. Hopefully I will get the phone tomorrow and once I receive the unlock code. Ring them - pay for the device and ask them to terminate the contract.

Looks simple process - Only worrying part is the Direct debit. Will see what happens.

at least o2 unlock code is free

    This is what EE charge
    Please note:

You will be charged £20.42 for unlocking your device, this will be charged to your account.

The IMEI of the device to be unlocked must be registered on the account and not blacklisted.

The amount of time it takes to unlock your phone depends on the device type and is as follows:

Apple iPhone / iPad: up to seven days
Any other device type up to ten days
We may need to contact your device manufacturer for your unlock code, which could delay things slightly. If that’s the case we’ll let you know by text on the contact number that you provide with us.

O2 unlocking is also more reliable that EE. Plenty stories on the net of EE taking your money and the unlock not happening.
