SKY. What can I say...!*#?!

Options
Called sky to cancel subscription on July 17th, giving over one months notice. Spent 15+ minutes on the phone being asked over and over for a forwarding address, where we were moving to etc. told agent we were moving to a rented property, which had no sky or cable connected and the landlord didn't want it connected. Still got bombarded though.

Roll on five weeks, DD been taken, causing us to go overdrawn on our account specifically for DD's. Called sky and were told their agent had not cancelled the service as he had 'been unable to complete the call'. We had, apparently, been aggressive to him during the call and had hung up on him.

Cancelled service again and was told that it should have been done in writing, not over the phone...?

One month on, sky has tried to take a lower amount from old account, which failed and are now sending a debt collector to collect - from our old address.:mad::mad:

Of course if you are moving it is only reasonable for Sky to want a forwarding address. Otherwise, where could they send any possible overpayment you may have made. ;)

Did you give them a forwarding address or not?
If not, I can fully understand them not completing the cancellation.

Here's an idea, how about confirming the cancellation in writing... as they suggest.
  • I am sure the law does not state you HAVE to give a forwarding address. Any refund should be debited back to the account and anyway, we have a postal redirect in place. They want your address so they can bombard you with 'cone back to sky' junk mail every day....oh wait! We had lots of those in the re-direction, so they MUST have cancelled our account.

Their website gives a phone number to call for cancellations. At no time were we advised to put it in writing from the original agent.
    Any questions?

we cancelled our sky over the phone and told them we found a cheaper alternative, so no need sending us all the come back junk. and this went through without issue and in 2 years we have never had any junk from them, but even if they did send junk it would be pointless as Sky wont take you back for at least 12 months after you cancel

They took me back less than 12 months (after about 6 months) after I cancelled. Don't know where you got that idea from!

I cancelled Sky over the phone, that's when the real pain in the backside began! 6 months of weekly mailshots & phone calls later and 2 months of chasing them for a refund which they credited to my Sky account despite the fact I had no services with them I finally got rid of them.

Strap yourself in OP it could be a bumpy ride cos they're next near to useless when it comes to customer service.

I think you are referring to the fact Sky won't allow you to take up new customer offers for 12 months after you leave, not that they won't allow you back at all. It would be a pretty poor business model if they did that!

    None whatsoever.

You carry on... you seem to have it all under control.

Oh... just one question... remind me again why you posted?

No it clearly stated you could not rejoin within 12 months. i have just checked this with them on live chat and they changed this about 6 months ago, so if you join within 12 months they they now class you as an existing customer and you could be made to pay monthly fees from when you left to rejoining

Am I missing something? Why didn't the op cancel their dd? Just log onto online banking and cancel it.
