so do these smartpacks run out after 30 days.0

Yes - like all bundles - regardless of how they name them: bundles, goodybags, smartpacks, etc.

i have a GIFFGAFF £10 goodybag that i got several months ago and have never topped this up as yet and still have £3 on itThis makes no sense.
A googybag lasts for a month and can't "have £3 on it".
I guess £3 is your remaining balance that is being used gradually after the goodybag expired.
Grumbler is correct, your Goodybag expired after 30 days, from day 31 you would have been paying out of bundle rates.
On Giffgaff that is 10p per minute, 6p per text and 20p for the first 20MB daily and then 20p per MB!
You would be better off on Three PAYG if you aren't buying regular goody bags, Three only charge 3p per minute, 2p per text and 1p per MB.====0 -
3 Mobile are good if you are a lowish user as with each topup you get 150mb of data 'free' for that month - £5 topups are available if you register a credit/debit card.
Sainsbury's Mobile are currently offering buy 1 get 2 months free on an initial bundle purchase. Effectively, £15 for 3 months of 800 mins, 2GB data and unlimited UK texts.
Sainsbury's standard rates are 8p per minute and 4p per text - so cheaper than GiffGaff's 10p per minute and 6p per text but more than 3's at 3p per minute and 2p per text. This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
