Which broadband supplier should we go for?

We have a BT phoneline and basic Virgin broadband. Just received a letter from Virgin saying they are going to concentrate on fibre optic cable broadband and as our area doesn't have this they will be handing us over to Talk Talk.
We don't know much about Talk Talk broadband. Can anyone offer advice on which broadband supplier might be the best to go for? Thanks.
edit; We are in North Wales.

Ask them what part of the contract allows them to sell your contract to another company.I do Contracts, all day every day.0

Look at combined phone/broadband packages from Sky, Plusnet and BT , then play them all against each other particularly if you have Sky TV
Plusnet customer service is top notchEx forum ambassador

I have just received the same letter and I am in a different area to you so it sounds like Virgin are well and truly getting rid of some of their loyal customers!
Virgin say they will write again with more information so I will wait for that and see what the Talk Talk package is before making a decision to move provider. To be honest I would rather not endure the hassle of changing provider again if possible.0 -

Thanks. We don't have sky but will now take a look at Plusnet and BT for combined package. Thanks for that.0 -
+1 for Plusnet. Not always the cheapest, but there are usually decent deals for new customers (don't forget Topcashback/Quidco)
I had TalkTalk a couple of years ago based on their price but found their customer service was truly, truly awful. At least Plusnet seem to understand their business and get things sorted when there's a problem, in my experience anyway0 -
Wait and see what TalkTalk offer, as it may be freebies like those of us 'sold' to Sky by O2 and BE were offered.0

ScoobyZ mentioned this 50% off deal if you switch to Sky from Virgin Media.

I am leaving Virgin end of January, early, courtesy of the price increase escape clause. If I can get some cashback as well, will be very tempted. Half price is on the TV, not line rental.
Make sure you download some Virgin statements before you get barred.0 -
I had a look. Can't seem to get cash back on the 50% Virgin to Sky switch.0

Anyone have experience of Utility Warehouse?
I'm also looking at Plusnet which seems to have good reviews.
Thinking of trying a 'Broadband Only' deal without contract for a month to see if it is suitable before taking on longer term. Any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.0 -
Like Pincher, I'm using Virgin's Feb 2015 price increase to escape from my contract. These ISPs will use every trick in the book to try and squeeze as much money out of you as possible so it's good to get your own back.
I'm moving house and when I phoned to say I wanted to cancel I was told I'd have to pay £48 to cancel coz it was within my contract period.
I then phoned 08000528310 to speak to the cancellations team and told them I wanted to cancel due to the price hike in Feb. I had to tolerate the Spanish Inquisition but stuck to my "no, I'd like to cancel" mantra and eventually the 30 day notice was accepted, voila! Ok, I'll have to pay for 10 days I won't use but that's cheaper than forking out £48.
You can cancel your Virgin contract until the end of Jan 2015 using the Feb price hike loop hole.0
