Yeah, we brought our 5 month old babies from Africa (where they were born) to the UK.....gosh, what a risk!
    Really?

Hardly the same as taking them from the UK to some (as yet) unnamed, possibly far-away destination that may have vaccinations and malaria prevention recommendations.

Took 4 week old daughter to Turkey and then a month later to Tenerife.

How on earth did you get a first passport, in under 4 weeks?

Back in the 80's my Mum took my brother and I across the US then onto Hawaii. We were both under 2 at the time. No disposable nappies!! We all lived to tell the tale!

Disposables were widely used in the 1980s.

Heck my Mum used them on me on a train trip in the early 1960s. Hella expensive but available.

Two issues here, the travel and the overseas. My 2p worth is that I brought up a child for its first 2 years living in central america and travelling all around that area. As the majority of posters have pointed out, children of all ages can cope very well with with travelling and all parts of the world manage to successfully raise their own children.

So it really comes down to risk and what you are prepared to accept, as is the case in most aspects of life to be honest. The generally well traveled and experienced view of most of the users of this forum, where you chose to ask your question, is that there should be no barrier to you taking a child abroad. I'm sure if you asked on Mumsnet you may get some different views but you chose to ask us and we have given our views. Can we ask the OP to update on your views and thoughts having heard what we have to say?
