Its a couple of years since I was in Vegas - its huge!
I think you will want to stay on the strip - Caesars palace is very central, but when I went I stayed in the Aria, and couldnt fault it.
You will want to take a walk down the strip, and see the free daily shows from the Wynn/Treasure Island/Caesars Palace - to New York, New York, Excalibur(bit of a dive now) and mandalay bay/Luxor.
If you have a couple of days here - spend a day on the old strip as well, go down the zip line at night!0 -
Went to LA and stayed in Hollywood. What a dive. Would not recommend. Got the bus to Santa Monica which we really liked and also venice beach. We should have stayed at the beach. Apart from looking at the hall of fame nothing and lots of imitators of Hollywood films lurking around in very dodgy costumes, nothing much else to do. In Vegas we Stayed in treasure island hotel which was very nice and not too expensive. On reading the reviews of ceasars palace if you booked the cheaper rooms you were put in very basic rooms at the back of the hotel which put me off. Couldn't believe how big ceasars palace was. Also if you like to be fully covered on car insurance, get it online in UK. Excess car hire insurance, it's loads cheaper than buying it from the hire company. We always but it and have had to use it with no problem once when a car hit us in a carpark...0

Land - stay in Vegas.
Day 1 - Vegas. Evening drive to Pahrump.
Day 2 - Death Valley. Evening drive to Bishop.
Day 3 - Yosemite Tioga Pass. End day in Oakhurst.
Day 4 - Monterrey, Seventeen Mile Drive, Carmel. End day in Carmel.
Day 5 - Pacific Coast Highway. Stopover Morro Bay or Ventura Beach.
Day 6 - Hollywood Blvd.
Day 7 - Drive back to Vegas.
If you fly into Vegas and home from LA you could possibly fit in a San Francisco day too. We spent a wonderful few hours near Pier 39.0 -
Post #24 is a first class itinerary with a great variety of cities, towns and scenery of different types. As well as the scenic highlights of Yosemite and the Pacific Coast Highway, there are some perhaps less expected wonders along the way, for example US395 near Bishop http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Route_395_in_California#mediaviewer/File:US395descending_intobishop.JPG and Tenaya Lake on the Tioga Pass Road http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenaya_Lake#mediaviewer/File:Tenaya_lake_3.jpeg"Such an enormous country, you realize when you cross it" - Jack Kerouac0

Nonsense!
Death valley. 49ºC with the top down all the way.0 -

I can remember that piccie from first time around
Daft question - was there any availability of V8's when you picked the car up ? The last time I had a mooch around a car hire lot, there was lots of smaller engined cars, but none of the iconic V8's.
There was a line of Corvettes available, but they were a seperate pricde point completely.0 -

There was, but no convertibles. It was a while ago now so things may have changed.
If you do get one remember to take soft luggage. The boot is quite big but awkwardly shaped.
Do you still have the 300C?0
