I want to travel at the end of may to around 5/6 June.
I want to travel to see los Angeles and las Vegas in 5 days. I want to hire a nice v8 mustang and only hire to travel around los Angeles and then drive to Vegas where I will fly from.
PS i'm over 30 so insurance and hire should be no issue, as well as the fact that I have good experience in rwd cars in case someone mentions it.
any ideas and tips? it has been a life long dream and I am taking my wife to visit USA.
I have seen some hire companies and a few hotels like Bellagio and Ceasers palace and hurrahs in Vegas.
vegas is easy mostly about the strip, I have much clue what to do in los angeles but I love beaches shopping sightseeing etc and of course driving.
budget under 3k.

LA is a hole. Ditch the idea of going there and see the natual beauty around Vegas instead.0

I like Los Angeles. Santa Monica is worth a visit, as is Griffith Observatory, Hollywood Walk of Fame etc. Long Beach is nice too. I think a couple of nights is enough. You could fly to LA, and home from Vegas. So if that's 2 or 3 nights in LA then drive to Vegas. I'd advise you to stay another 5 nights though. So would you consider a total of 8 days rather than 5? If not I think you'll just exhaust yourself. Also the weather is nice that time of year so maybe you'll even want to spend some time by the pool.
The Vegas hotels you mention are in different price categories. Harrah's should be fairly cheap. Caesars and Bellagio significantly more expensive.
Your budget should be adequate, unless it includes spending money (meals, drinks, gambling, shopping) in which case it's probably a bit tighter.
Lots of good Vegas tips and help on the dedicated Vegas thread.0 -
I went to both a few years back after camp. In la there is Disneyland, magic mountain, universal studio plus sunset boulevard, the post bit where the stars shop etc. then in Vegas one of my favourite things was seeing he water show to music outside of one of the hotels. We stayed at stratosphere, only because it was cheap but it was ace. Plus I would say go to a show.
For flights check out Travelsupermarket.com
For hotels try Priceline or Hotwire.com . With both you can like reverse ebay but you get some good hotels for the price. Me and my friend stayed in a four star in Chicago for $100 a night or less, was lovely and well worth it.:T:T  :beer::beer: to the lil one:beer::beer::beer:

Do I read this right you want to go to the West Coast & Vegas for 5 nights in total, that's a long way for such a short time, you lose the arrival day anyway & jet lag will mess up your sleep for at least a couple of days, Vegas to LA is a fairly long drive, I did that in April last year, not enough time, if I read correctly, in my opinion, with the distances involved & amount of places you may wish to visit?0

Why restrict yourself to five days?
Vegas > Death Valley > Yosemite > Carmel > Pacific Coast Highway > Hollywood > Vegas could possibly be done in six and would give you more wonderment. Maybe fly into Vegas and out of LAX to remove the final leg.
Try to do 14 days, slow it down and perhaps add San Francisco and Grand Canyon south rim to the itinerary. A boring car will be cheaper than the Mustang, but I like your thoughts!
Price up economy fares from UK with Virgin / BA including car hire. Then do the same with business class fares leaving from Dublin.
Here's a link to part way through the SW USA thread. You'll see my initial blank canvas and blank knowledge evolve into a fabulous 10 day holiday. In truth 10 days wasn't enough - but it was magnificent.
LA? I would really challenge you to miss it. We did an hour on Hollywood Blvd (Blackpool) and saw the very expensive shops around Rodeo Drive. But it was a waste of a day and even on a Saturday the traffic was terrible. Delving deeper into the city would have meant missing out on some amazing stuff.
Read the thread linked above. Commit more time to it. Make it really special.0 -
You either like LA or you don't, it's a purely personal thing, I stayed in Long Beach and only actually went into LA twice.
I would suggest starting in Vegas then going west from there, lots to see & do on the way and again, you either like driving or you don't, the roads are long and busy all the time.0 -
I think the OP is having a laugh.
A budget of 3k would get 2 weeks with some change
Why 5 nights for 2 cities with one day spent driving?
if you are serious check out the Vegas thread0 -
The drive between Los Angeles and Las Vegas is mainly I-15 through the Mojave Desert. Some people regard it as boring, other people (including me FWIW) find the wide open uninhabited expanses awesome.
Outside of the big cities, traffic levels in the USA are generally very low.
Los Angeles covers a huge area and is highly varied. So it's quite possible to like some things but not others, for example Santa Monica, Hollywood, Universal Studios and Disneyland are all very different to each other.PeacefulWaters wrote: »Vegas > Death Valley > Yosemite > Carmel > Pacific Coast Highway > Hollywood > Vegas

Another option starting from Las Vegas is the Grand Circle, looping right round the Grand Canyon, which would take two weeks. You could finish back in Las Vegas or Phoenix. Video (all the national parks featured also have much easier walking paths and hiking trails than the extreme ones they did):

I like the LA surrounding area's, yes the central city bit is of little interest to most apart from spotting the buildings in movies, however the outer area's are great, Santa Monica, Venice, Huntingdon Beach, either North or South up & down the coast, drive outside the city away from the ususal suspects & it's a different world but I'm a mature skateboarder so my interests are not your usual tourist stuff, more local culture & people :-)0

hello everyone,
first of all thank you to each and every single one of you for taking your time to reply to my post, each post is very interesting with varied thoughts.
I fogot to mention me and my wife will be traveling together hence the budget, I really want to hire this v8 mustang as it is a dream car for me in usa. I have owned many sports cars in the uk mostly modified japanese.
p.s we love food, and I eat almost anything that's out there, not big drinkers. like gambling, driving, sight seeing, sleeping LOL, rides zoos etc, and some history. which the uk fortunately has lots of. just want a clear blue sky to drive.
videos are awesome.0
