Should I remind tradesman to cash my cheque?

YES. No question about it. You owe the money.0

As already said above, you have done everything you can and paid the tradesman. If this tradesman has received a cheque, and not yet banked it, then that is his error, not yours. When we receive cheques, which are a bit of a pain, and pay charges (as a small business), I still do this usually within the same week, as we have our own sub contractors to pay.
Wait for a few more months and if he doesn't bank it then the money is yours. More fool him, if he was really good(
Ever heard of Karma? What goes around comes around you know!
My self employed hubby often finds items of jewellery and cash in washing machines he repairs and wouldn't dream of NOT telling the owner. He has also found items when he has pulled out other domestic appliances and always returns these to the owner.
He also found a very ancient sword hidden in the rafters of an old cottage he was working in. He told the owners and they had known nothing about it. It has been in a museum now for many years as it was a rare and interesting object which was hidden there. there was quite a story to it.0 -
Should I remind tradesman to cash my cheque?
Why wouldn't you?0 -
In May last year I gave a talk at an event for which they agreed to pay travel expenses. I sent an invoice and then forgot all about it. In November I got a message querying whether they had paid me. When I checked, they hadn't so they sent the money - just in time for Christmas. So yes, it would be good to remind the tradesman.0

Of course you should. The tradesman may have lost cheque and think that you have not paid him but cannot be bothered chasing it up and has written it down to experience, in which case there is no chance he would do work for you again. You also cannot assume that after 6 months the bank will not cash the cheque. Banks do not routinely check dates on cheques before putting them through. I used to own my own business. Occasionally I would get an unsigned cheque from a client in circumstances where it was obvious it was oversight. I would put it in with the banking and the bank never noticed. And for the last, and best reason refer to heading!0

Phone up and remind him about the cheque not being cashed. He most probably doesn't put cheques in untill every couple of months or when things get a bit tight. If he lost the cheque you would have had a phone call by now.The bloke did a good job......why are you even asking?0

A cheque is valid for 6 months, so no need to remind him to bank it.
I had one tradesman last year who only banked it just before the 6 month deadline! I gathered he wasn't desperate for the money, lucky him!0 -
I had a big plumbing job to do some years ago. Being short of ready money at the time I chose a plumber (my customer) who I had nagged constantly for long delays in sending out his bills and delaying paying cheques in when received. (He had a large overdraft).
The final day of work he proudly presented me with a large bill thanking me for my good advice !
If you have a good tradesman do your best to help him and remind him of the outstanding cheque.0 -
I quite agree about honesty, but it didn't pay in my case! The tradesman wanted cash, and I preferred to pay by cheque. He didn't cash the cheque. I reminded him three times, with no result. I contacted him later about something else, and he accused me of not paying. Then he arrived on my doorstep demanding his money, which I would have gladly paid had he asked for it in a civilized manner, instead of which he undid the work he had done [outside] and left the place in a mess. I did not protest because he was in a nasty mood and I am a single female. So now I need to get the job done again, and he hasn't got his money either. Honesty, yes. Courtesy too! By the way, he admitted that he's mislaid the cheque - why not give me a call and ask for another?0
