Just made a massive mistake, I was renting a room in a house, was paying over the odds but it was pretty decent in a nice house. In an attempt to save some money, I gave my notice at the end of six months and started to look on spareroom.com, I found a place, moved in last night and regret it, borderline stressed. The minimum term is six months, or 3 months if I find a new tenant. It's through an agency, I paid £75 fees and one month deposit/rent.

How does the 3 months tenant swap work? Surely that would give me no time to find a place for myself?

But I don't think I can make it. Work up 2am by neighbors screaming at eachother.

I signed a contract so I know I'm screwed but just have to talk to someone about it, lol.

Anything, anything at all I can try??

Chris.

It's only the first night -the neighbours may only row once a year for all you know.

What else is wrong with it ?

I agree with Duchy. It may well be a one-off. Don't panic just yet too much. I really hope it works out for you.

Just a really horrible gut feeling, noisy, faint smell of gas (friend noticed it too) It's on a council estate so I expected a bit of noise but I feel like I'm going back instead of forwards. I.e my last place was perfect but me trying to rush everything screwed up big time.

    Sigh.

Thank you. Another point was that I nearly sealed the deal with this lovely place with great people, but after everything went through the agency listed the fees which were far too high, so a part of my emotion is the fact that I nearly had this great place and feel like I've downgraded.

Some people just don't like change and it takes a while to adjust . The place that was "perfect" (but actually wasn't or you'd never have left :) ) is that the same place with photographing draining plates issue or a different one ?

If you smell gas then stop messing around on the internet and phone the gas emergency number.

OP. Get off this thread NOW and follow this advice given.

If you smell gas, NEVER wait, wonder, leave it - CALL the gas people now. It's free, they'll be out in the next 1-2 hours.

Indeed I did, but it did feel like "home" the lady in question was rarely home and you don't know what you've got until it's gone. I could happily move back.:o

I always rush into things and now I'm stuck. Negativity will always be associated with this place which is no good for health.

The first night is always the hardest. Same goes for first day at work.
On my first day and week at new job I was desperate to leave and go back to my old job.
I've been at new job 5 years now and soooo glad I stuck it out for the first awful few weeks.
Give it time. If still no good for a few weeks or a month then maybe it might not be for you, but let the dust and newness and uncertainty settle down first.

Thank you. On the bright side, I am saving £200 a month and can leave after 3 months should I find a replacement tenant* Just I feel like I could have had much better.

*Btw, how does the replacement tenant work? Doesn't give me much of a chance to find a place as me finding a place means that I'd need to find a tenant to move it exactly when I need to move out.
