A quick question...
The fertility specialist I saw last week said that I must have a blood test before TTC to make sure I was immune to the Rubella. I am pretty sure I had the jab when I was at school but he was adamant that this must be confirmed by blood test PRIOR to conceiving. However, internet seems to suggest this is either (a) not essential to do before hand or (b) can be be done when you are already pregnant (and the vaccination given then, if needed, whilst pregnant), and when I asked my doctor for the blood test he was very dismissive! I certainly don't want to have any unnecessary blood tests, but also do not want to unnecessary risks.
Does anyone have any insight or further information? Thanks0 -
I haven't seen a fertility specialist, so I don't know from that perspective.
But....I'm pretty sure the 'screening' booklet that the GP surgery gave to me, mentions a blood test for checking Rubella immunity in pregnant women. It didn't say anything about testing before getting pregnant (not that I recall anyway).
Presumably it will only be a risk if you are exposed to Rubella. Do you work in a profession that might expose you more than most? Just wondering if that is why he's asked for it?February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
Maybe out of date but when I was pregnant in 2012 not a single healthcare professional asked me about rubella.Happiness can be found in even the darkest of places, if one only remembers to turn on the light - Albus Dumbledore

Rubella immunity is tested at your booking in blood tests when pregnant and is also asked about in the booking in questionnaire.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170

Welcome queen lizard, I hope your stay here is short!
Cats and movingup I can really identify with how you are feeling. I have found it useful to keep away from ttc threads for a while. It is definitely a roller coaster with some months worse than others. We are in our eighth month now and I feel a bit more relaxed but I know I will feel awful when AF arrives.
Angel temping only tells you when you have ovulated which is useful for working out your cycle but if it varies you might want to look at opks as well. My temps were all over the lace last month and I think we missed ov so started opks this month.0 -
Apologies for lack of colours and bold font in my replies! I'm usin phone at the moment and it's a pain in the backside.
Slight temp rise this morning so hopefully this will continue tomorrow and we can have a rest!
Had a rubbish day today with a parent having a go at me as soon as I got in. I hope I've smoothed things over by e-mail but feeling really anxious about the next time I see them. It's playing on my mind so really don't feel like BD tonight!0 -
Thanks Euronorris, Milliebob and Sexymouse, that does put my mind at rest - I guess he may have been angling for more pricey tests... I am not in any high risk workplace so am now happy to leave in on the "wait and see" list
Thanks so much for the replies!

Sending lots of dodgy hugs out, there seems to be quite a need for them in the midst of a bunch of bfps.
Congratulations sunshine girl
Cd 8 I think, not entirely sure, I know bding is due to commence this weekend. I can understand why people feel that deleting apps might be a good idea, but I've decided that my mindset is that what will be, will be, I'll get pregnant when the time is right and that won't be changed because I do or don't chart. I actually find it less stressful to know that I did ovulate I think.
Not sure if I already put it here so apologies if I'm repeating myself but I've got a private pelvic ultrasound booked for next Monday. This will just check for fibroids, blockages etc and as I will be cd 15,they will hopefully be able to check my follicles. Its only costin£50 so worth it for some peace of mind.
Very happily married on 10th April 2013

Still no af and a bfn, so my body is just being rubbish as usual, feels like every time I start to think maybe it is starting to get into a regular cycle (albeit still a lot longer than a normal cycle) my body decides it doesn't like that and will give me a number of symptoms(both af and pregnancy!!) And then just drag the cycle out much as it can!!!
I do need to go to the gp about something else so I'm going to see if he will refer me to the fertility clinic as its been almost a year since the mmc.0 -
hey all. CD8 here.
Went to the doctors yesterday for an initial chat as it's been over 6 months. She seemed a little bothered by my long cycles but said as I'm getting positive OPKs and having decent AF it sounds all ok, albeit long.
Booked in for blood tests next cycle though just to be sure.Officially Mrs B as of March 2013
TTC since Apr 2015, baby B born March 20170
