O/S Daily Thursday 1st January 2015 New Years Day

O/S Daily Thursday 1st January 2015 New Years Day

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Up bright and early and smiling at all the peps with hangovers, well all the decs come down today good clean downstairs and back to normal , don't it look bare though! I usually cook a family new years meal but this year its going to be a curry nom nom, and if the weather drys up for an hour take tess out for a walk blow away the cobwebs. Have a good day all.

    Happy New Year everyone

We didn't see the new year in but were woken by lots of loud fireworks. Flora the cat didn't go a bundle on that.

Christmas decorations came down yesterday and a good clean was done. We are now clean, tidy and no clutter to be seen. Himself still has lots of chocolate to eat, so should last him some time.

Hester I hope DD is recovering after her op.

    Have a good day everyone

I'm really pleased – I've just been through my spreadsheets, in 2013 I averaged a weekly grocery spend of £94.51. In 2014 it was £70.01 :T
228lb of veg was grown in the garden, not including the 51 garlic bulbs :D Total garden cost - £32.97

This year I want the grocery bill to go down a bit more and the homegrown total to go up. A few more craft sales would be nice too :D

I've been up since just before 6am and have been enjoying the silence. I've tidied the kitchen and put a load of washing on – that's me done til tomorrow :D I'm looking forward to a lazy day. We're all home today (I think there's an extra person here, I'll find out when they all wake up, lol), that doesn't happen very often. There's plenty of cooked, sliced meat in the freezer and lots of veg so I'll do a mini roast if everyone fancies it. If not, I'll do baked potatoes and we can all help ourselves to whatever's in the fridge.

Good morning and Happy New Year :hello:

I've been up for ages already but as I don't drink, my head feels very clear :D. Can't say the same for my brother and sister who had their birthdays yesterday. They are not twins as there is a 15 year age gap between them but they were both born on NYE.

I was very very boring and went to bed about 9 last night but managed to wake up before the fireworks so came down and wished my family a Happy New Year. I've not made any resolutions as I always break them before the week is out :o .

I am going to be cooking a four bird roast for tea with all the trimmings and then I'm having a few days off from cooking as I did it all over Christmas. Hubby has offered to do it for a little while till he goes back to work on Monday. I've meal planned for the next couple of weeks and I need to check what is in our freezers so we can save some money on the shopping.

My eldest DD is taking hubby up to the local Dogs Trust tomorrow to look at the dogs and see if there is one suitable for us. I keep looking online but the turnover is very quick so it would be much better in person. I would prefer a smaller dog really but hubby wants another collie cross I think, at least that's the ones he has been looking at on the website. It will be lovely to have another dog for company.

Well, the cat is launching himself at the door so I'd better go and let him in. He will need feeding too so I will love you and leave you. Hope you get all you need this year. Take care xx

    Morning everyone

Happy New Year, wishing you all health, wealth, happiness and love in 2015, take care & stay safe x

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

    Now light, windy and mild.

DH and myself up and enjoying first peaceful cuppas. DS1 and DS2 still in their pits.

Dinner last night was roasted chicken pieces with pasta in a cream and bacon sauce with a side serving of peas. Am a little disappointed as I wanted to get a 3 bird frozen joint but when I got to the shop yesterday after work they had sold out, so I have a large frozen pork joint instead, managed to pick up just a few bits there also, just to keep us going until tomorrow when the shops open properly again. So today we’ll being having roast pork, roasties, potato bake, brussels, carrots, broccoli and gravy.

We didn’t go out last night just stayed in had a glass or 2 of wine – we’re not really that bothered about NYE.

I sat yesterday afternoon and sorted my old handbag out and got everything transferred over in to my new one, the old one has broken so it’s now safely in the bin. I’ll spend some time today writing up new diaries, I’d bought them all several weeks back, I have a diary in my Filofax, a desk diary for my computer desk and hubby has a desk diary for him and the jobs he does to do with caravanning, so I try to keep them all aligned, not easy when DH is not admin minded at all and just writes notes on scraps on paper then doesn’t know what he’s done with them! I keep big pads of paper near the phone and on my desk in the hope that he’ll write it down - we’ve only got until November – that’s when his term ends and I have to say he won’t know what to do with himself, as we’ve been actively involved for the past 10 years. We certainly will have much more free time to do what we want when we want.

I have several other bits on the list to do – 3 are important things that need to be done asap, so these will be the at the top of the list and need doing within the next 7 days, not difficult stuff just that I haven’t had the spare time to get the jobs done, so now need to get on with it. Will also be starting a major declutter of our house, all of it, even DH says it needs doing – it’s not particularly messy or loads of stuff piled up – we’ve just got too much stuff and a lot of it I think has just accumulated over the years – so time to do a big sort out!

    Take care x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning all. Please may I join you? :j

I'll introduce myself as Daisychain 1, an old style wannbe who could do with some hints and tips on where to get started. I didn't want to start my own thread as I'm really not that interesting and wouldn't have that much to write about but thought that this thread might be a good place to start if you'll have me!!

What I try to do already.
Cook as much as possible from scratch
A little bit of grown your own (but with limited success)
Love to craft, I make HM cards and jewellery. I have a sewing machine but haven't the foggiest how to use it.

I would love to hear back to you with all your ideas. If this post is better of suited elsewhere then please let me know.

Off for a cuppa now. Have a good day.

Morning all and a Happy New Year! I managed to sleep a bit longer this morning, probably because of the late night and too much Baileys! Can;t decide whether to take the tree and other decorations down today but it always looks so bare without the twinkling lights. Decisions, decisions!

I haven't been on the scales since before Christmas and don't intend to - my waistbands are telling me I have eaten far too much! So today I am starting my usual new year sensible eating regime! Anything incriminating left in the fridge will go in the freezer out of harm's way!

    Have a good day everybody.

ps welcome Daisychain - we were posting at the same time!

  • Good morning and Happy New Year.

I didn't go out last night but have a headache and upset tummy today so not sure what that's all about! Am waiting to see if some painkillers help. If they do by the time the cats come in then I"ll crack on with my list and, if not, then it's a duvet day for me although I'm going visiting tonight.

Hope everyone enjoyed the festivities last night - or did as I did and went to bed early! Here's to a very MSE-OS 2015 :D

  • Good morning all and Happy New Year.

This is my first day here on the GC and today we're off to the pub for a lunchtime meetup with lots of friends. I'll take some sandwiches with me but there will also be free ones handed out at the pub.

Once we're back home it'll be something like scrambled eggs on toast for supper as we've eaten all the leftovers now.

I've some bananas going a bit soft and speckly in the fruit bowl so I think tomorrow may be spent making a banana loaf.

    Have an enjoyable day everyone.
