Morning all
(just about)0 -
Eldest son is being an utter pain.
We picked him up from the airport on Tuesday, Wednesday it was New year, Thursday he started looking for a car which he bought on Friday.
he is now bored and on the point of booking flights to Japan even though he will barely have 8 or 9 days there as he starts back at work in 3 weeks. it is equally cold in Japan and his mates there are also all at work.
His mates here have gone back to work and anyway they have all have girlfriends or houses or both so they don't have any spare cash or time to be going out and about with eldest son while he is on leave.
so this morning I suggest getting a game of squash together with his mate, going up to the snow dome place as they have snowboarding lessons on a Sunday afternoon, joining the local running group who meet 2 evenings a week. We suggested that he might actually like to go somewhere when he picks up the car on Monday - going to see his sister or brother or just driving about ... Everything is being rejected or falling on deaf ears
for the moment he has gone off to the gym - this is mostly what he does - gym or x box
next week is going to be a misery

I'm the same. When I saw my Mum at Christmas she said, 'over the Christmas holiday, I'm going to clear out the freezer!' ; I agreed that I would be doing the same..... she meant throwing away , I meant using and replenishing.
Like you say Tiny, some stuff doesn't look perfect, but that goes into casseroles, soups, curries etc. I think we all go the extra mile to do what we do here, theres no way in hell I'm chucking it away.
Totally agree. The only thing that gets thrown away/composted here occasionally is bread as I still have not got the hang of sometimes there only being the three of us.Oh and of course mouldy chocolates from not storing them in ideal conditions.
Ate some salmon from the bottom of the freezer before xmas I am sure it was from 2012.Cooked in foil parcels with some halved cherry tomatoes for extra moisture/flavour and you would never have known how old it was.
I still have couple packs of trout from 2013 according to my inventory so moved them towards the top of the freezer so they get used next.0 -
I must admit I did find a pack of langoustines in the bottom of freezer no. 2, Tesco finest from absolutely years ago. I got them when they were really cheap/glitch never knew how to cook them lol0

Morning all. Loads of jobs to do today. Still need to take the tree down
sad job as makes the room bare. .
Afternoon all.
Yes, I have this job to do today too. I took all the lights and decorations off it yesterday, but today need to chop the branches down a bit so I can get it through the doors and outside.“Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?”

As some of you might remember my OH decided to clean my big, industrial freezer out a few days after I lost my dad.
I was in no position to argue and he put out SIX black bags on usable food.
To save having a domestic I snuck out early in the morning before bin men arrived and rescued some of the better bits.
It tasted lovely, despite the age of the items and it made me feel better as I hate waste.
A bit of bin diving.:eek::eek:
Some people live off of doing that.
I don't think I would have not been able to have a domestic but totally understand why you wouldn't of at the time. xx0 -

Can't beat good freezer rotation so you don't get a shock pulling out a joint from 1999. I'm sure most of us here have to play freezer jenger often enough to have a good mooch through and see what needs consuming next. Even though on freezer jenger day; you just wanna get it in and get the blooming door shut!!!0 -

Mr TS despairs at some of the things I bring home. But it's a good job he likes jellied eels.
He was  when I came home with 6 different large pots of olives/roasted peppers/roasted veg etc whoopsied to 23p each the other night. I didn't have a clue what was in each one as they were all marked olives.
But he has just gone off for a shared lunch, with a bowful of them mixed in with pasta (glitchy wholewheat dated oct 2013) and said how fantastic it tastes.
