Only on page 38 of 96 right now but feeling very motivated to declutter and want to join in :o To try to motivate me, my bathroom has been filled with all the unpacked carp I own that's languished in boxes ever since I moved in (move in seven months, boxes packed over a year ago at least!) so that I have room to move to start the declutter, then once everything has homes / has been chucked / is going in the sale pile I can then carry out one box at a time to sort through. And the fact I have to squeeze myself into the bathroom to use it is definitely motivating me to get a move on :p

Kitchen is mostly done, just one cupboard left to sort out, a mountain of laundry to do and some washing up (but need washing up liquid!) and need to put away ornaments into display cupboards once I find them from wherever "safe place" I put them... Need to put out the recycling / rubbish, didn't do this overnight as a) there's no light in the communal bins area and b) don't think the neighbours whose flats overlook the bins area would have appreciated me chucking stuff away at 3am :rotfl:

Have been decluttering as I read this thread, every time I take a break I read this thread and after a few pages I feel the urge to finish whatever I was doing :rotfl: Am aiming for 2015 items as a minimum, and not including the normal recycling / rubbish that's done regularly. :)

#1. OOD red velvet cake mix -- contents chucked in bin, packaging recycled
#2. In date but stale icing sugar -- contents chucked in bin, packaging recycled
#3. OOD cream cheese icing -- chucked in bin
#4-#9. OOD 6x food colouring -- will empty contents down the plug hole and recycle / reuse bottles
#10. OOD ground cinnamon -- contents chucked in bin, bottle set aside for glass recycling
#11-#14. OOD spices / herbs -- contents chucked in bin, plastic pots repurposed for crafts storage
#15. Minestrone packet soup -- food bank
#16. OOD suet -- chucked in bin, packaging recycled
#17. OOD lasagne sheets -- as above
#18. OOD rice -- as above
#19. Hippo -- decluttered to bathroom, will use when bathroom emptied
#20. Tap inserts -- as above
#21-#22. 2x damaged DVD covers recycled, DVDs put aside
#23. 3x glass bottles and 2x Calpol bottles -- put aside for glass recycling
#24. Cat collar -- returned to cat
#25. Broken bra -- will wash then clothing bank

I'll feel better when the bin is emptied and I get the opportunity to visit the glass and clothing banks, but not looking forward to the four flights of stairs I'll have to go up and down emptying the aforemented rubbish / recycling :rotfl:

Also not quite decluttering, but have unpacked the shoe rack and dining table and chairs from their boxes. Horrifying amounts of cardboard / plastic wrap to recycle  but now I can put them in their homes instead of moving the boxes around, and the shoes finally have somewhere to go :j

    Morning all
    Welcome to the new declutterers
I find this thread along with the konmarie one is really helping me, I found reading the kondo book really made me reali I'm hanging on to some thing that really don't bring me joy, the local Cs and the school fete have done really well out of me recently.

I have turned into my mother!! Bought a mug holder to put my enormous Disney mugs on to free up cupboard space and add some colour to the kitchen. Finally put it on the worktop after decluttering the kitchen and decided it made the worktop look far too cluttered so the mugs have gone back into the cupboard :rotfl: Mug holder has been put on the To Decide pile (consisting of only three items, so not too bad).

Decluttered some more things today AND had a massive change around. Moved two cupboards and a small desk to make room for the dining table and chairs and the shoe rack to be put in different places than planned (but new layout improves space in all rooms except hall, as front door cannot be opened wide but can't do much about that :( New hall cupboard has been redesignated the Sale Cupboard where all things destined to be sold are put to a) free up space and b) ensure it gets sold, because if I leave clutter where it was I'll never get around to selling it :o

#26-#27. Cat food packaging -- recycled (had been keeping them "just in case")
    #28. Tatty undies -- binned
#29. Tatty odd sock -- rag bag
    #30. Tatty undies -- binned
#31. Unidentified woolly sock -- rag bag (never seen it before, never owned a sock like that, and yet it came out of my washing machine )
#32. Tatty odd sock -- rag bag
#33. Lonely fabric placemat -- bag for mum as it belongs to her :o
#34. Odd sock -- rag bag
#35. Aforemented mug holder -- to be considered. It has to serve some purpose or it goes!
#36. Pair of chopping boards -- binned
    #37. Broken pen -- binned
#38-#52. 15 books -- CS specialising in books
#53. Potato bag (duplicate ) -- sale cupboard
#54. Odd bits of cutlery -- sale cupboard
#55. Brand new heels, still boxes -- sale cupboard
    #56. L and P plates -- car
#57. Unidentified games -- sale cupboard (why would I have a PS3 game when I've never owned a PS3?)
#58. Stained ironing board cover -- rag bag
#59. Broken cat toy -- binned
#60. OOD bus timetables -- recycled
#61. 1 drawer of paperwork carp -- recycled
#62. EDF Zingy sticker -- car
#63. Bike seat cover (very uncomfy) -- rag bag
#64. Christmas dec hooks -- loft
    #65-#67. 3x Christmas dec bells -- loft
    #68. Fairy lights -- loft
#69. OOD batteries -- put aside for hospital
#70. Hoover box (still under warranty) -- loft
#71. Ornament boxes -- loft (very expensive ornaments, I rent so definitely moving one day in the future, safer to transport ornaments in original boxes)
    #72. Bicycle lock -- bicycle
#73. Surplus torch -- reluctantly binned
    #74. Car charger -- car

All the loft stuff has been strategically placed in a very conspicuous place to remind me to borrow family member's loft ladder so that I can put them away :p

    I'm on a roll this weekend :j

Hi Dee, welcome to the thread. I would suggest just choosing a small place to start, such as a drawer or a cluttered surface. Have some bags or boxes to hand. Bags or boxes will be for keep, sell, give away (charity shop or give to family/friends), recycle and throw away.

If you are feeling low on motivation, set a timer for 15 minutes and just work for that long. If you wish to continue you can, but if you want to stop, you have already done some decluttering for the day! Try to do 15 minutes per day and you will soon see a difference. Once you have completed one area, try to keep that area clear of clutter, until you have decided what items you want to keep there.

Also take recycling, rubbish and charity shop items out of the house as often as you can, so you can start to reclaim some space. Good luck and we are here if you need further support :)

Selene, you are doing really well :D

The display cabinet saga is ongoing, so it is still in my spare room. However, need to concentrate on Ebay listings today and tomorrow as got 100 free listings again.

    43. Cardboard boxes to recycling point
    44. Three pretty drawer handles returned to Mum, as I got rid of the drawers I was going to replace the handles on a while ago!

    In

New lead and harness for the dog, and three books for me. Dog now has four leads, so will try and sell two as they have hardly been used. If they don't sell, they can go to the local dog rescue centre.
