1 Was it not quite mild last night?
2 OP has not come back so must assume he is a Norwegian with spiky hair.
Yes, which is why presumably snow/ice began to melt and slide off onto the car below.

Where do you live? I find it hard to believe the weather has been cold enough to form an inch think slab of ice, which is what would be needed to "cave in your roof".

The last couple of days have been well above freezing across the whole of the UK.
Where do you live? Here in the Midlands it's only been since last night that all the snow and compacted ice from last week began to melt. All previous nights have been well below freezing as has been in most parts of the UK.
  • It would be good after all the help we give to the OP and good advice if he could at least come back and give us a progress report. That way we can keep the forum going with all the positive feedback.

There is another thread which I helped on and this was someone trying to get a replacement TV - no response from OP. I sometimes wonder why we bother.

... I just wanted to know if legally I can claim the repair costs back from the private company? As it seems silly to have a ledge that high up on the building, its clear this kind of thing will happen. Also, it's in no way my fault as I only parked on a council street, it's not in a necessarily dangerous location....

If "its clear this kind of thing will happen" then you shouldn't have parked there
= you would be seen as negligent
When will the "Edit" and "Quote" button get fixed on the mobile web interface?
  • It is no good having a go at the OP JethroUK. He is responsible, it is important that we look where we are going, otherwise we would have our heads in the clouds looking up at all the roofs and that wouldn't be good would it.

A bit like hogging the middle lane on a motorway and using a disabled badge illegally.

I've not seen any of that compacted ice.
  • Well, I'm with Spicy McHaggis on this one. I have not seen any ice that thick anywhere that would cause any damages. I wonder if the OP is a troll.
