Yes Debtfree2012 it is a lot easier when they are just outside. Biggest issue I had was dealing with other livery people :( We also had a livery yard for a while but it drove me mad because each person wanted their horse put first in your estimation, theirs fed first, theirs turned out first etc. its got to be done depending on each horses attitude!!! Anyway we sold that farm and went back to livery for a while until we found this place, and we love it, just us no one else and peace and quiet.

Dreams do come true, I dreamed for years and then it happened, just keep focused and pray hard :)

Today the horses could go on the yard as although we had a thin covering of snow yesterday, it had gone completely this morning and the yard was not too frozen. DD feels a lot better today so rode both her horses, the menage was frozen though so she spent a while loosening by flexing and some very nice lateral work in walk, I went down to watch (wrapped up like an eskimo) and it was good, both well up to weight still despite my cut backs and looking good :)

On Saturday DH and I had cornbeef rolls for lunch so today I used the other half mixed with mash potato and made everyone toasties for tea. DD had a fab idea and suggested we put beans in as well.....lush lol!!!

I looked in the freezer today to see what meals we still had, I have 23 meals in there. I will need to buy pasta and potatos etc. to go with it all but at least the most expensive part is there, that should see us through to mid feb at least, well I hope :/

Have had a sneaky message that more work may come my way this weekend, hope so that would be another £120 to add. I wont get it till feb anyway but at least it will ease things up a bit.

Summers coming and the fields will recover soon. Will be fertilised and rolled, harrowed and left to grow till April at least and then limited mucking out thank goodness. Happier horses as well. My hay bill will go down drastically, and so will feed, THANK GOODNESS!!!

I had a piece of toast for lunch with some really lovely blackberry jam that I made back in the summer. It was my 3rd attempt and to be honest even if I say it myself, flipping marvellous. Next year I am going to do strawberry and raspberry, and blackberry again. We planted two rhubarbs last autumn so I hope they grow well. Altogether we have raspberry, strawberry, gooseberry white and pink, go gi berry (spelling?) blackberries, blackcurrants, mint, and intend to grow, runner beans, carrots, potatoes, onions and parsley at least.
Last year the onions were great and I chopped them all up when they were dry and froze them, I am really lazy I don't blanch anything just cut it up and freeze it works well for me. Still have some runner beans left, they were stringless so delicious. Just need the veg patch to defrost now so I can get the flipping grass off it.

Have a lovely night everyone x

The new hay man has rung and yippee he has said he can supply us!!! He is coming next week with 6 bales at £28 each instead of £40 a bale! Feels good :)
Old hay man came today, brought 40 small bales of hay and they are much better quality so chuffed with them, they will still be needed to give to monkey pony as he can not stomach the haylage.
Today I made pasties, yum yum :) I wanted to use the rest of the mash and corned beef left over but didn't have the heart to give the boys toasties for lunch after having them for tea last night, so a bit of pastry making later and yum 8 pasties...3 left now lol :) So fair dos that tin of cornbeef, made rolls for me and DH, 7 toasties and 8 pasties, economising is fun lol :)
So also made a huge maid of honour cake out of the left over pastry from the pasties and put a dollop of blackberry jam in it, yum yum :)
Have made also......a big "rough stuff" cake to my nans receipe she always made this and it is lovely, DS doesn't like sultanas though so I didn't put any in, cheaper anyway lol, it is almost ready to come out of oven so ill go and get it :)
Feeling a little bit chirpy today, hoping for a cwtchie evening x

    Hiya

So interesting to read your thoughts on having them at home and running a livery. I bet it is lovely to have them in throwing distance, good on you.

Ideally we would like somewhere that if we choose to, we have space for a few extras. I wouldn't want anywhere like I am now which has loads of liveries - all competing for the school at the same time and leaving rubbish anywhere and everywhere (usually outside one of my stables!).

Until that day I will continue to dream and read your diary which is very similar to how we'd love to be.

Loving the stretching out of corned beef and yum to DD's idea of beans. In fact I think I'll add it to the list for next week (when I can afford my shopping again lol). In fact (again) can I just come and stay hahahaha....! I think my tribe might issue a complaint if I do though lol.

You are sounding chirpy tonight - the pasties sound lovely - I never make pastry (I'm not a big pastry lover but it sounds good to stretch ingredients! and kids like it!) How big was the can of corned beef? sounds like you fed the 5000 with it!!!:D (bit like my spam mountain!)

Good news on hay too - every penny saved is worth it!

What's a rough stuff cake - sounds interesting!

I do hope you have a Cwtchie evening and your chirpiness continues

    Jx
  • Great saving on the hay - I usually get through 20 large bales a year with mine, so at a saving of £12 a bale it would be over £200 a year saved!

I'm another one that's very envious of the ponies in the back garden - would love to be able to just 'pop' out to them rather than drive 10minutes each way.

    Have a good day x
  • The only problem with having them at home is that you can't pay the yard owner to do them for you occasionally! I would have really loved someone to come and do mine when I wrenched my back, but the only person who offers that service around here is currently very pregnant and not working - and she would have been £20 a day to come twice a day.

Busy day today, in and out of the house all day.
Just chip rolls for tea :)
Eyes drooping and kettle needs to go on as I have just got in.
Judi24 I will post a pic of rough stuff when I work out how to do it, and the recipe if you fancy :)
I LOVE having my babies on my doorstep, I don't even want to walk a few yards lol, well I have to walk about 50 ish but that's it :)
I am going to be debt free, then mortgage free and then I am going to pay a lady ...or man ;)....to come and muck out everyday lol! :)
I really want to sleep tonight, I woke up at Scatty Skewbald time of 4.45 this morning and couldn't go back to sleep, I don't know how you do it, I am shattered :)

I don't know how she does it either, I HATE getting up at 6 but as someone once said to me, be grateful for waking up (deep!).

Loving the man coming to muck out scenario - maybe we could get a live video link lol xx

Sorry to hear you're not sleeping well - must be something in the air - although I had a better night last night!

I forgot! I called into a cheapie shop with mum earlier, and ended up with a few things, industrial bin bags in the hope they don't rip open like the "paper" ones we've been having, some pasta and sauce two for £1 DD likes them, and I stood looking at the shelf like a zombie reading over and over the sign that said "was 99p now 10p" for do limo sauce! I read it and read it and read it, then I checked how much it was per 100g and it was 2p, anyway when I'd got over my astonishment and looked over my shoulder a few times, feeling like I was stealing, in grabbed the last two on the shelf, I would have emptied the shell if there had been more, seriously 10p a 500g jar! Bargain of the century, made my day :) bolognese here we come :)
