    £75.00 for me this week

I find it very motivating hearing where you are all get your extra payments from. Mine are from ''snowballing'', I have paid things off in the past so I still keep that amount aside (otherwise the money would get sucked back into the general budget and lost) I then divide it over the weeks of the month :)
  • Agreed Picklepot. When I first started this challenge I found that seeing where people got their extra payments from gave me ideas for finding money. At the time, I was havily in debt and every penny was budgeted but seeing how the odd bank acount skim and money off coupon mounted up really motivaited me.
These days I'm saving instead but I follow the same rules. I have a 'set' payment per month and the interest which I don't count. The challenge is to find a bit extra on top each week.

  • It's great to share ideas!! I've copied and pasted from earlier on in the thread below, and then added in a few more;

Bank account skim - say your balance is £123.45, you could send the £3.45 to the credit card (or even just the 45p if you are feeling the pinch, or £23.45 if you are flush!).

Walking to work instead of taking the bus/car and paying the bus fare or parking money saved off a debt.

Budgeting for something and then paying any monies left over to the debt. For example, £100 for food shopping, only spent £90, so £10 off a debt.

Paying any tips you get off a debt if you work in the service industry.

Committing to paying a set amount each week, such as £5 every Friday.

Banking coins from your penny jar and paying it off a debt.

Making savings by switching utilities etc to cheaper deals and paying the difference saved each month towards a debt.

Selling items on eb@y/gumtr33/f@cebook and paying the profit off a debt.

Weighing in old clothes at a cash for clothes type company.

Taking on an extra job and paying wages towards debt.

    Using bank account rewards.

Completing surveys for cash to use as extra payments.

Using money off coupons in everyday shopping and paying the amount saved off the debt.

    Any more I've missed??? Xx

  • Hello, may I join you? I have just come out of the debt trap on 27/08/2015 after paying over £49,000, and what a relief it has been. I currently have £870 as emergency fund and my next goal is to see that grow up to 10k till August 2016. I also would like to make a start on the mortgage overpayments. I am looking forward to hearing your inspirational experiences and tips to spur me on on making extra payments every week to achieve the goals above.

Thanks for the reminders Lucky - I only thought about bank account skimming once it was suggested on this thread!

Don't think I've posted in a while but got a whopper of an update :D

    *ahem*

    £3259.19 :j:j:j

This means I have paid an extra £19K towards my debt instead of spending it. This thread is brilliant!

Thanks for your suggestions. I decided to open my coin bank and put all the money in the current account that holds the emergency fund. New total is now £934.65. Next plan is put items up for sale on eBay, and those unsuitable for selling on eBay will be bagged and weighed in cash for clothes companies. Hubby is thinking of getting rid of CD's and DVD's to Music Magpie. I have a bag of empty ink cartridges ready to send to ink recycling companies.

Has any of you heard of smart phone apps like shopitise, checkout smart, clicksnap (connected to Quidco) and top cash-back? I have £9.50 on shopitise, £7.38 on Quidco, £4.06 on checkoutsmart and £.20 on top cashback. Every little helps.

I also have a few coupons from ASDA price guarantee ready to use when i do my food shopping next. The money that I would save because of the vouchers will go to my emergency fund.
