"Hogging the middle lane"

Now, if I am driving at the speed limit, then anyone taking over me is going over the speed limit and so there shouldn't be a problem.
I had an incident about a year ago, where a man followed me to the services. I needed the toilet and I wanted to go and eat the sandwiches that I had taken with me and have the drink that I had taken with me. What I do is go to the supermarkets and get my food and drinks from there as well as my household things as I REFUSE, absolutely REFUSE to use these services as they are sometimes priced more.
Anyway this man come over and said that I was stupid for "hogging the middle lane". I went straight to my blue badge, showed it to his face, told him I had a disability and that I would be calling the police due to discrimination.
I can tell you he backed off. So anyone out there who gets any bother and has a blue badge, just you make sure you use it. It can help in all kinds of situations.
He said that I had stayed in the middle lane for miles and miles. Well I did. Is there anything wrong with this?
I think its really positive that the severely mentally impaired are allowed to hold licences too - how diverse!!!!!0 -

I don't think my badge allows me to do what I want but I do think its fair to use it to show my disability when someone has a go at me.
...more mindless tosh.
You're disabled, but you use it as an excuse for being a miserable neighbour, and now for being a !!!! driver.
This really grips my !!!!.0 -

My post was asking what is wrong with it? If there is something genuinely wrong with it then I will have to move over to the other side. I don't think my badge allows me to do what I want but I do think its fair to use it to show my disability when someone has a go at me.
It is no different to someone saying they are a hero if they have been in the army when they want to be treated a little less aggressively.
Why does it annoy people? What is wrong with doing the limit in the middle lane. I do not stay in the middle lane if a lane is closed though.
I don't want to be hated on here, I do want to understand.
Ok well I think that a lot of other posts have already said exactly what a lot of people where thinking. Just one point got me really curious.
Ps your blue badge is not as some have already said a get out of jail card. If someone has a go because you are disabled that is different.
Why is it more comfortable driving in the middle lane as opposed to any other?
The blue badge entitles you to be treated and included just as everyone else. It does not and is not meant to be a VIP card to do what ever you want. Shame there are some genuine cases of discrimination but silly stories and attitudes like this put equal rights back years!Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -

This is actually true. Lorries predominate lane one and thanks to their weight, it receives significantly more wear.
I had to face this situation recently, and opted stubbornly to displace huge jets of water from lane one instead of using the clear-of-water middle lane. Fortunately I don't skimp on tyres!
Is there an official or professionally accepted stance on this?0 -
There have been some useful posts on here that explain why middle lane usage can be annoying. The reason I tend to stay in the middle lane is because of when people join the motorway from the left they are often (or I find them often) distracting or intimidating. They are sometimes going at speeds faster than I am, even when I am driving at the speed limit.
Caravans or towing cars should not really be affected by me if I am already doing the speed limit because they will be breaking the law if they drive over 70 miles an hour.0 -

Really? You come across as so balanced.
I'm particularly impressed by the way you deal with differing opinions to your own, and to criticism of your point of view.
You should consider writing a self-help book. You could call it 'Exploiting your disability for success! The disabled-person's guide to conflict resolution using the Blue Badge with those pesky able-bodied people'0 -

Curiously, seeing as it's such an obvious attempt at trolling at the expense of those with disabilities, one of whom I live with, I find your original post (and even your username) unecessarily insulting.
But such is life in the big wide world.0 -
Highway code rule 264 for Motorway Lane discipline:
https://www.gov.uk/motorways-253-to-273/lane-discipline-264-to-266
You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past.....0 -
There are so many vehicles on motorways whose speed is limited to less that 70MPH. You have to have a quiet motorway to make it worth going into the inside line. How can people complain about middle lane hoggers? Just move to the right and overtake. By staying in the middle lane you are helping people who have to join the motorway. If you are doing 70MPH in the middle lane only emergency vehicles and criminals will be overtaking.
When I read the first sentence of your post I thought it was going to be a good one. But then you started going down hill.
Your'e right, there are indeed a few road users who's limit is below 70 mph and these road users and not permitted to use lane 3 on a motorway. I'll leave you to work out why the rest of your comment went down hill.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only.
