data only sim card

I recently bought a mobile router to use with my tablet and am now looking for a suitable pay as you go sim which, rather like my mobile phone, does not require me to make monthly payments .As I would be rarely using it, I dont wish to make such regular payments so I would be grateful for any suggestions.On my phone I just top up as and when I run out of funds and not on a monthly basis.Any suggestions?

Anyway my concern is not to be tied down to a monthly contract

A very good option, I've got one in a mifi at present. Best coverage and excellent speeds, even in a 3G device.

If you only want 500mb a month i would go for t mobile 12 months free internet off eBay for 50 quid.

You need to make a call around 6 months

Andy Andy...it's not free if it is £50, is it?

Cheaper to buy the SIM for 99p and then add the six monthly packs for £20 at a time.

Total cost of £35.99. You'll learn the money saving way.

Also, with the EE SIM option, you get 2GB per month for £60 per annum.

So 500MB per month for £50 would not have been great value.

It depends whether u want to fit the sim and forget.

But I take your point about the 6 month topup method being cheaper.

Fit the SIM and forget? That is not how it works. Have you actually utilised one of the £50 eBay packages? You have to apply the second pack after the first six months is up.

You are just scrambling around in the dark....

You would start here, top up £15 and then apply the first pack. After six months, the second...for a total of £35.99.

No need to pay extra for nothing.

I hope that's not going to send you off on another money making idea....

I checked the T-Mobile FUP for the £20 Six Month Booster and it is now 1GB per month.

I actually took a look at some of these T-Mobile SIMs. Oddly there is just one whose claims differ from the others. The one at which I looked claims to run for the whole 12 months.
The others, as expected, suggest that you have to apply the second Booster after six months.

Either way, it's cheaper and an all round better idea to do it yourself. Even if they were the same price, it could be an inconvenience. As if you accidentally used even a penny of the credit on the SIM during the six months, you would have to topup another £10 in order to apply the second package.
Doing it yourself avoids this, as you would only topup up directly when you want to apply the second pack.

I have actually used the T mobile packs as it happens.

I think I paid about £9 for one, which came with £7 credit for calls. (it may have been the other way round, in fact I think it was, as it was a used SIM)
I got 12 months free internet out of it and the credit used for calls.

Then in April'13 my dad purchased one off ebay for £16 (with £5 credit on it for calls). He got 12 months of internet out of it too.

£11 prity good price for 12 months internet.

T mobile seamed to have stopped the offer I guess. or maybe the old sims still qualify for it (and hence why those sims are now £50 on ebay)
