Help please seller will not refund my money

I purchased a second hand used computer which was advertised for sale on my local "freecycle" swap shop site. Purchased wednesday 17th december. Husband not happy with my purchase. emailed the lady the next day (18th) to state this and ask if I could bring the PC back for refund. No reply. Phoned the lady on saturday 20th, left message. Daughter phoned back to say Mother was away to xmas eve. Left things as did not want to bother over the Christmas period.
Phoned the lady on Monday 29th Dec'. spoke to husband, he said she was not there, he was very aggressive, said I had bought it now and they did not want it back, did he realise what sort of contract i was in, he told me to sell it, and that I was causing them stress and not to phone them again. He then put the phone down on me. I was not rude, I kept very calm. In fact I did ask him not to shout and I said why are you being like this.
What do I do know??

Assuming this was bought as a private purchase and not from a trader then unfortunately you have no rights to a refund.

No right to return...you'll need to sell it on if you want to recover any money.

Just sell it on. While I'm sure you've been polite, if this was a private sale it does sound like you've hassled them a bit. They don't want it back, just sell it on and make the best of it.

Why was your husband not happy with the purchase? Is it faulty? Is it not as described?
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Items bought in private sales from private sellers are 99.9% sold as seen.
You inspect, you pay = you own.
If you want guarantees or warranties you buy new from a shop and pay the price that reflects such additions.

you need to realise its a private sale , you had chance to think about it and ask questions before buying it , next time use argos or something where they have a lax returns policy
  • I didn't think you were allowed to sell things on Freecycle?

It is the big tower style. He prefers a laptop. Plus it is loaded with Linux system. Bit hard to understand.I believe Linux is free to install as well.
