Am trying not to use too much bleach or bad chemicals as we have a septic drainage system.

I managed to unblock the same loo last week using a kettle full of boiling water (as mop didn't clear it) Nasty smelling stew, but it did the job without a ton of chemicals!

Have you tried a whole 2 litre bottle of full fat coke left to soak over night? I'd also say leave the black Harpic over night too. It might take quite a few nights to eventually shift it but eventually it'll lift it all off.

The acid in the coke is not going to do the septic tank any good, nor will any of the commercial products for cleaning limescale which are full of strong acid, nor will bleach.

Tiny quantities are ok, so it might be that emptying the toilet out as described then applying a mat of kitchen roll soaked in the stuff to loosen it might help.

    And repeated efforts.

Then regular scrubs after that to avoid build up.
  • Vinegar could be a good option. I poured some into a tray, then soaked pieces of folded up kitchen roll in it, before placing that on the affected parts of the toilet so it could be left overnight (may need to repeat over several days/nights with a bit of scrubbing in between).

I'm assuming you have already cleared most of the water to begin with.

TMI alert ... Not sure it's all lime scale btw, as it is stained brown ... Sorry!

Scoop out as much water as possible, put on rubber gloves and use a wet pumice stone on the stains.
I would advise using brick acid but not with a septic tank

    Update:
I got some of the Harpic Power Plus tablets, 8 for £2.50 in Tesco.
Put one in overnight and it cleared about half of it.
Put two in the following night, and then with a little scrub in the morning it is clean!
Can't believe it - I thought we were going to have to replace the toilet but it's all good now!
    Thanks for all the suggestions
    :)
