GQ wouldn't that be "overly religious" underwear, i.e. more holey than most?!
:rotfl:Lol, some of mine were positively pious!

Ah, the deep emotional satisfaction of having used something, repaired it as necessary, but finally have used it up and assigned it to textile recycling.

Right, going to assign myself offline for now, have a good evening, folks. xx

Seibrie, another one who uses old stuff then rotates with better stuff. When I am in the house by myself I wear scruffs and change if I have to go out and change again when I come back! I also have bits of crockery I use when i am on my own and save the better stuff when others are here.I used to do exactly the same as you with the childrens clothes when they were younger. To my shame I even have a hierarchy of cleaning cloths.

I did decide a few years ago that I deserved decent underwear though. If I am hit by a bus I am hospital ready!

Pauline, that is strange experience,I don't believe in ghosts and the like but I have experienced a similar thing ,not at Chatsworth though.

The kitchen is thick with dust. They are removing 2 walls which are T shaped.1 wall gone, the other will be gone tomorrow then it's make good time.I can see it is going to be worthwhile, already there is much more light in the room.

I have been out all day at my Mum's today and managed to fall headfirst down her stairs whilst carrying a terrarium.WHAT A MESS.Sadly the poor thing is smashed to smithreens and in the bin.My intention was to make it up as a Christmas decoration.Miraculously I only have a bruised and cut hand.I turned my attention to her button box after as a safer passtime. The tin is very old as it was my Nana's at least 100 years old and so are some of the buttons.Found what I was looking for to fix a skirt and a jacket.

Ooh Vulpix - that could have been really nasty - you were lucky to get off lightly. Hope you're not feeling too battered today.
Laughing at the 'religious underwear - my Mum used to call it 'more holey than righteous' funnily enough I pulled a pair of knickers out the drawer and the cotton gusset has a big hole in it!!! Never had that happen before & the rest of them is perfect so they've been consigned to the ragbag.
Clean up day today - will do a quick whiz round and see if I can get a few more things out the door ;)

    Hi All

FINALLY managed to log on, on my phone! I have a days work invigilating exams so been reading the free paper

Fuel reductions at supermarkets this weekend (metro paper) plus 10x points at sbury sat & sun (nectar email).

Also, got chatting to the girl on the checkout at @ld! last night. They will be reducing all Xmas stock on Xmas eve (last year it included joints, cream, cheese etc)

    Hope it's useful!

    Look after yourselves xxx

Edited to say that it starts at opening on Christmas eve and doesn't tend to include frozen stuff. All fresh stuff and crackers and choccies and the like

Thanks celtic_moon that is useful. Their extra special mince pies are nice as long as you like brandy. Pity we already bought the five bird joint.

Still chaos here but DS2 has now replastered middle bedroom - filled all holes in doors (caused by him learning to knife throw as a teenager) and filled the holes in the hall (caused by him and his mates moving furniture as teenagers! Came home from work one day to find that a double wardrobe and dressing table/computer table unit had been broken up (GRRRRRR) on the grounds that he 'never used a wardrobe but would use a chest with his clothes in' and the remains had been thrown down the stairs! In other words he had made a computer table and chest from the above mentioned unit!!! What it was to have creative son!) He always promised me he would mend it, and , true to his word he has :-)

Spends of £23 on Monday have fed me and DS2 (so make that the equivalent of feed ing 3 :rotfl:) and it is still lasting out with the YSing of a loaf of bread and buying of more milk! :D

Mending - house is slowly getting there
Making Do - one of his favourites is apple crumble and when a friend gave me some fallers earlier in the month I peeled, stewed and froze them for this week - so the cost must be pence - flour; butter; minimal sugar; cinnamon; sesame seeds (from the Chinese supermarket - very cheap and last for ages!)
Minimising - well I tried but Pay!al would not accept my bank details nor credit card details  - have not had the time to find out why - am trying to e-bay stuff!!!

Tomorrow am out with my cAMRA friends for a brewery tour followed by a pie and mash meal - really looking forward to it!

thanks for the Aldi Tip - I too am a churches/old buildings fan but just havn't had time to visit any recently - too busy renovating my own  :o :rotfl:

Just catching up with Home Comforts at Christmas while I check the web and have my morning cuppa. Some extravagant things on there but some of the OS traditions and those from Northern Europe are lovely. Apparently whenever you cook with golden syrup, even desserts, a bit of salt should be added for the pallet to truly appreciate.

Gingerbread features heavily in our Christmas preps so on my to do list today is investigate Northern Europe gingerbread traditions.

Today is the first day I am ready to don my apron and put on my housewife hat. It's been absent for about 6 weeks as my family work on relocating but I'm settled, unpacked, sorted and ready again. I'm celebrating with a beef stew in the SC with steamed carrots and mashed potato for tea tonight.
  • fuddle, Glad you are moved and unpacked. I hope you will be happy in your new home. I did not realise you were moving too.

So far we seem to need to be in several places at once and various authorities will not let us get on with the necessary work. Appointments are made with no choice and but to attend when they say even if someone else also requires us in a different place at the same time. We are given minutes notice with dire consequences for not attending. I am beginning to think all this is to deter us from having social housing.

I will be glad when it is all over. Watch them all disappear on 24th December.

Lyn, I don't know how you have the energy.
  • FUDDLE when I make our Christmas gingerbread I put in ground cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg as well as the ground ginger, black treacle to make it wonderfully dark and I add candied peel and chopped crystalized ginger too ( I get this from Poundland) then when it's cooked it's much bettr in taste if you keep it in a tin to mature for a couple of weeks before eating it.

Fuddle - I missed you posting but thought you were just busy. Didn't realise that you were moving. Is it to somewhere nicer/more convenient? Do hope you weren't in a situation similar to Nursemaggie. Glad you're settled before Christmas & hope you and your family will be happy there xx
Nursemaggie - talk about one hand not knowing what the other is doing. It's so frustrating for you and should be a fairly straightforward process. I'm cross on your behalf. Think you're being optimistic about them disappearing on the 24th - get it will be the 23rd!!
Feeling really miserable at the moment. Still in bed as I had a bout of cystitis start yesterday. Don't get it often & I had some sachets so dosed up & drank gallons! Didn't work & I was going to the loo every 20mins all night. Found some antibiotic tabs & have taken those & its helping. I'll get up soon as I've got loads to do.
Hope everyone has a good day xxx
