Had my nearly shoulder length hair cut on Friday - silly me told the hairdresser to do what she thought. I'm now sporting one of those graduated bobs with long sides and its awful! Really does not suit me so going to have to do some remedial work myself. Ah well - it'll grow.
Vulpix - yes the churchyards do throw up some heartbreaking stories. A little church near here had so many young children in their graveyard I did a little bit of research & found they'd had an outbreak of diphtheria - we're so lucky with sanitation and modern medicine.
Dry day here today so going to do some garden tidying & greenhouse clearing
Have a good day all x

silvasava/B] We have vaccinations to thank for diseases like diphtheria being rare. These people who still believe the rubbish about vaccinations causing Autism all these years after the chap that said that was debunked should realise what they are doing to their children.

Sorry I did not finish my sentence earlier got interrupted by DS who would not be quiet while I finished the post. We have been and bought the carpets and they are going to put them in between Christmas and New Year. We did not buy cord in the end we got a softer one in a colour called coffee. We thought it would show the dirt less than something lighter.

My mum was a great believer in immunization after one of my brothers was very ill with measles. As a result I was one of the first to have the measles jab, rubella jab and my boys both had the MMR jabs and meningitis jabs despite being too old for the eligible age group.

  • I love visiting the National Trust and English Heritage properties around the East Midlands, no scratch that, throughout the UK.

Can I tell you a story about Chatsworth?

I went with my partner to see the Christmas display and I got this very vivid picture of a young girl, wearing a Broderie Anglaise skirt, just an image but very very real.

So I mentioned it and my partner said he'd had exactly the same feeling which I scoffed at a bit. He then said, no it isn't the same person because the girl I saw had a skirt with "lace and that sort of decoration with holes in" !!! We were walking up towards the stables on the cobbled walkway.

I think it is safe to say that we did "feel" the same person. A strange and very moving experience and one I remember when we aren't too much in tune.

Sorry, not exactly make do, mend or minimise but I suppose I could say it is minimising because we both had the same feeling!

I hate throwing stuff away just to minimise. Often it is too good to throw away, but not good enough to give away. So, I work on minimising that one item, e.g. pants, by wearing it the most, so that it is ragged the soonest. I have items that I use when we have guests, which are the better towels, dishcloths, duvet covers, etc, and items that I use when we are 'just us'. I do the same with dds' underwear; if it'll be on display, for instance when changing for gym class, they will wear their best underwear, otherwise it's oldest first.

Reminded me of my late Mum who used to insist we always had clean good underwear on in case we were knocked down by a bus and taken to hospital, never happened as far as I know and I daresay there are not many nurses or Doctors that are that bothered about the state of your 'keks' if you are bleeding all over the operating trolley :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Make Do: Got my 'big shop' for this month today, and after realising that I am only at home for another two weeks then I will be flitting between my two DDs houses for about 10 days I am pleased that I only spent £29.80 in total. No more shopping to buy this month and I will carry on making do with what I already have in the freezer. Most of the stuff was mainly fresh fruit and veg and a few top-ups of stuff that I had run out of.

Mending: I sewed my youngest DGS's trousrs up where he had torn the pocket

Minimised: some paperbacks to the CS, and gave my sis-in-law a pair of trainers that I had in the spare room that were a bit on the small side.

Good day today and quite happy with the results :T

Too right JackieO they would not be bothered. If you survived being hit by a bus they would be cutting you out of your very messy clothes to avoid moving broken bones.

I tried to minimise the phone calls but spent most of the time on hold. Ran out of time to finish them. Oh for the old departments that dealt with everything instead of all those myriad of different people for the slightest change, leaving you on hold all afternoon.

We don't have any gas at the new flat but guess who the supplier is Bri!!ish Gas lol. Trying to persuade them to change the meter as it is a key meter and I am worried the electric may run out while I am on my CPAP machine during the night. Not having much luck.

Did intend to declutter the last of the parcels to the post office. Tomorrow all tied up so will have to be Saturday. Bet it will be busy. I did so want to have started the decoration by then.

:D I'm in exactly the same position and resolving it in exactly the same way. The idea is to bring the presently over-large inventory of some items down via wear & tear and then continuing with a much-reduced level of various kinds of Stuff.

I have just two tea-towels and two pillowcases on rotation, and am concentrating on two bedsheets, just aiming to get stuff used and then out of here. I was childishly-pleased earlier this year when I actually wore up one of the pillowcases and sent it for ragging. And a few religious knickers have been meeting their maker this year.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

GQ wouldn't that be "overly religious" underwear, i.e. more holey than most?!

The thrill of resigning something to the ragbag after it's given me over twenty years of good service, is wonderful!
