  • meritaten I had put the ring on to warm and put the pan on it. chopped onions got stuck in the well round the edge and pan got hot. Plastic chopping board melted. I also melted the handle in on the splashguard by taking it off the heat and forgetting to turn the handle around. It was one of those days.

The steam sale lasts until Saturday it is supposed to be for Black Friday. It started around 6pm tonight.
  • Morning All,

Have just been steam cleaning the halogen oven I obtained yesterday; now, along with all the other bits and pieces, it's ready to use. Have any of you any tips for using one? According to the instructions it only takes half an hour to roast a chicken in it! Will report back when I have results.

NurseMaggie, I think that I get offered things because one, people know I am/have been a dealer and two, people are very weird about cleaning things, especially if there is dried up food and general sticky kitchen fall out on them- fortunately for me, I'm not squeamish.:j And by the way, if you are struggling for curtains, pm me with sizes/styles you like etc and I'll see what I can do.

One good idea if you have acres of window to cover and you can fit it in with your 'look' is to use good quality curtain lining as curtains and either stencil it with fabric paints or find some lovely trimmings/fabric for the leading edges of the curtains and tie it in with matching cushions. Of course, the least material you need is for Roman blinds, but I do think curtains soften the room especially in winter.

Recipe later, Folks, I have a date with glue and fabric; will explain later.

    Viv xx

Finally, one of our bath towels was worn down enough to develop a hole :) , and now I can make it into dishcloths :D

Vhalla - I use a halogen oven in our caravan. It's convenient but must admit I've only used it infrequently for things like chips & pizza so be interested in how you get on.

  • We have finally got an appointment to view the flat. The housing officer I spoke to says it is quite a big flat so unless it is in terrible condition hopefully we will accept it and be in for Christmas.

Today was going to go for my usual Thursday treat in Olney Cos!a but there was nowhere to park! Went round the back to the Co-o car park and thought - Ive still got coffee in my flask - why buy more? Wonder what treats Co-op has to offer. A box of Thorn!ons mini choccy millionaire shortbreads was the answer - only had half of them as they are just soooooooooooooooo rich! But on my mander round the place spotted pack of 4 croissants for 99p and and pack of 12 rolls for £1.25! interesting YS! All this for less than my usual coffee and cake! :D

Have been good today - have Mended my wheatbag because it is getting v old and threadbare - I need to find cuddly material to recover it!
Make Do - made my own picnic for lunch and a flask of coffee - the pitta bread was from a 9p pack YSed a few weeks ago! A boiled egg + roasted pumpkin which I had roasted and is delish cold or hot!

Minimise - not so much of this today except the food stocks and not using heating as much as possible!! I.e. sitting wrapped in a blanket! :rotfl: Very cosy tho!

    Happy Birthday Lyn!
this old dog has learned a new trick! my DIL requested I make youngest granddaughter Ava a cot 'blankie'. hmmm - my crochet skills are limited to 'endless granny squares'! but cots tend to be rectangular. YOUTOOB! brilliant 'how to' video on how to crochet rectangular twin bed blankets. bit of thought and cot blankets will probably be about HALF the size of twin beds? follow instructions, halve the initial number, and am well on the way to making a cot blanket using Ava's old cardies and jumpers! there we are - MAKING DO again!

Good news with the flat nursemaggie, hope it is the one for you.

Not much MM&M going on here at the moment, must try harder!

I think I have nearly come to the end of my wrapping paper stash, may even have to buy some more for this year, hopefully there are bargains to be had. Have enough tags for the whole country as I cut them from old christmas cards, probably wont do that this year as I have so many.

:) I'm in the same position with home-made-from-cards tags. The cards are so nice that it seems wicked not to re-use them like this, but I must be firm, I have enough prepped for several years' worth of giving.

, really hope the flat is suitable and that you have a secure and affordable home within weeks. Fingers crossed, please keep us updated.

I have been eating a mixture of YS, home-grown and storecupboard foods, so running down a bit of an excess inventory in some categories (:o) and am on the last chapter of the last library book.

Not the last library book ever, just the last one I have out atm, the bought-books are beginning to pile up again, thanks to various wonderful 10p and 20p book deals at the charity shops. So, apart from returning this last book in the next few days, I will try to stand firm and catch up on the read-and-donate pile and get them minimalised.

Going to be pretty busy today but hoping to squeeze in a chazzer run at some point with a large item which has been getting underfoot.

Keep up the good work, lovely peeps. GQ xx
