  • We were married in 1967 in a Register Office in Kent and had our reception at the Dover Castle. Not the real one of course, a pub in the next village . The caterers charged 10s.6p. per head, and we invited 35 people.

I wore a 3 piece pink suit with navy accessories and carried a small bouquet of roses. My Mum thought my skirt was a bit short!!!

Our honeymoon was spent in Hastings in a caravan and we have been married 48 years last month. It didn't cost us much money because we didn't have much, but we were happy and in love, and it is the same today

    Hi all,

Recovering from the marathon scone making session. One freezer nearly full of scones - thanks to FairyPs cheap, easy and wonderful recipe.

Interesting meals this week as we are off back to the IOW for a few days this weekend and I wanted to use up the contents of the fridge. The Rev loved the surprises I produced. Reminds me of when the boys were young and used to poke suspiciously at their plates saying, "What did this used to be?" My fondness for reusing leftovers was legendary.

Loving the stories of weddings. Mine was in the early sixties and my DH wanted the works, whereas I would have loved one with about 6 guests. It was OK though as we were heavily involved with the church so.....church was free, flowers done by choir ladies, music provided by friends, bells free (we were both bellringers), photographs taken by cousin (pro photographer), reception for about 100 was afternoon tea in a friends large and very beautiful garden -thankfully it was a very hot summer's day. I hired a wedding dress, headress, veil and even shoes - cost about £15 which is about all it cost us. It pays to have the right sort of friends! Even better to be church-involved. The photographs made it look as though it was a big society event but nothing could be further from the truth. All in vain alas, although I stuck it out for 18 years the man was appalling and I'm proud that he has been my 'ex' for the last 34 years.

See you all again in about a week. We come back from the Island straight into the church Garden Party (hence the scones). I love my life really even though I moan. One day I won't be able to do these things and wil hate it.

Love reading everyone's posts, and you all give me wonderful ideas!

Please can someone point me to Fairy Princess's scone recipe? I 'hear' so many say what a good one it is and would love to try it
    Thanks in advance,

I'd love to know the scone recipe as well, please. I've checked the list on the first page and I can't see it
  • Evening everyone

Am sooo tired, I came home from work and had a two hour nap and found it very difficult waking up... Well, at least managed a minimum of household things so that all I will have to do tomorrow - besides groceries round - is passing the hover. Now just waiting for the washing machine and then it will be hanging the laundry, putting fresh linen on my bed and then off to sleep and hope that I will be better tomorrow.

Really like all the storys of shoe-string-budget weddings. Should I ever find a suitable husband and should he agree to that idea my plan is to have a budget wedding too.

I read an article lately that a lot people ask friends and fmaily to help with the wedding and in the article it sounded so negative. But I really like the idea and I would be more than happy to bake a wedding cake for a friend or help her do the decoration of the venue or whatever and wouldn't hesitate to ask friends to help me in return.

Monnagran enjoy your time on the island!

Jackie, 41 days?! That was quick! But it lasted and you've been happy and this proves that you don't always have to know each other for years to know that it is THE ONE.

Groceries round tomorrow, will try to stay off all the tempting things and only buy the few fruits and vegs I need and some chicken. Oh and ice cream, my small guilty pleasure.

Will have a lazy weekend ahead and will try to do some crafting. Loads of UFO (un-finished objects) flying around...

    Have a nice evening everyon!

Good morning all. I am minimizing - all the non-alcoholic beer that alcoholic DH will never drink - gone.

Will make do with whatever is already in for meals this weekend.

Don't know about the mending, I have trousers to sew but don't know that I can be bothered today. Oh I do know, I can't be bothered today.

    Have a great day everyone.

:) I suspect that the negative tone of the article is because an awful lot of money is made off weddings, and several trades and industries wouldn't be at all happy if more people were being satisfied with simpler weddings, whether there was a DIY element to them or not.

By and large, people enjoy being involved in things, and a wedding where you've done more than buy a gift and rock-up in your best bib and tucker is going to be more pleasurable.

  • Morning everyone :)

Feeling happy today - got first load of washing drying on the line & second load going round in the washing machine; bed stripped ready to be freshly made and 3 items sold on eeeaabayyy wrapped & ready to post in an hour or so :T
Got another couple of things finishing on eeeaabayyy today - I know 1 is definitely selling & loads more finishing tomorrow after my mammoth listing last weekend :D I'm hoping my brown paper lasts for my parcels, if not I might be using wrapping paper turned inside out lol :rotfl:

Catch up with you all later,

  • For my younger daughter's wedding, I performed the marriage ceremony(I was a Deputy Superintendent Registrar). I paid for that because it is a statutory fee but my boss said we could have the wedding after all the others were finished, so there was a little perk involved, I also made all the table decorations

They didn't want a big fuss but she was insistent on wearing a wedding dress with bow at the back (don't ask me why). She was into Doc Martens (sp) boots at the time, and I was convinced she would wear those with her wedding dress, so to overcome that worry I bought her wedding shoes as well. We made our way to the Register Office in our car because that was what she wanted and the reception was held in a local Toby Inn.

All done on a shoestring budget not only because of money but that was what they wanted

  • Hi everyone

Also been quite busy. All the laundry folded and put away, plus I handwashed some tights and have them outside to dry, hovered everything, did some small cleaning jobs, went to the post office, groceries round and so on.

Really felt like going into town today when I woke up. No idea why... So I decieded to go and buy the perfume I had my eyes set on. It is from Crabtr€e and I really like their perfumes as most of them have a lovely scent, they last ages (used one daily all winter and still didn't used more than 10-15ml of it) and they're cruelty free. So that was my little naughty spend of the day and will probably stay the only spent for July...
Then had sushi and back home.

Will do some mending later on, though it isn't exacly mending as there aren't any holes - yet. All my tshirts end up with holes in the front, where the trousers end. This piece of fabric that stands away from jeans over the zipper (know what I mean?) gets holes into them and I've binned loads of shirts in the past. So I now started to iron some of this lining fabric to the inside to prevent holes...

GreyQueen you're of course right! People should believe that bigger is better.... A friend of mine had a typical italian wedding... 200 people for the reception after they went to the registry office. another 200 in Italy for church... The wedding lasted 2 years... She said if she'd knew that in advance she'd saved the money for something more worthy...

Did some tidying in my basement lately and found 6 shower gels! not to mention 3 currently in use... Why does a person needs shower gel stocks for more than a year????

    Have a nice afternoon everyone!
