    Hi all :j

Popping to de-lurk - although reading along with you all - not feeling I have been very MMM recently (!)

Now my DD informs me that I am her Plus one at her friend's very fancypants wedding in London in 6 weeks time.......very posh church & then reception at 2 Michelin starred restaurant.....OMG..

How this relates to MMM is that I have loads of clothes - a lot of them unworn so far - which makes me determined not to buy anything new, as it is we will have to spend 2 nights in central London & get the train down. Problem is though that I have put on some weight - like a stone - since last year & even then was not slim. So, I have to lose weight so I can wear my existing clothes :eek::eek: I don't expect to lose a stone in this short time, but if I can lose a bit it will help.

I've decided to follow the 5:2 - first day today - and on the other days eat healthily, mainly cutting out desserts which are my weakness. After Silvasava's useful post I decided to try to search MSE but it didn't come up with anything - any ideas what I'm doing wrong?? TIA if you can help....
New start JAN15 - NOT BUYING IT 2015 . Long haul DFW #145 : 2011 DEBTBUSTING : £5500 OD GONE, £2000 OD - GONE £93,610.30 cc & loan debt - GONE 27.6.14 FINALLY DEBT & MORTGAGE FREE :happyhear

    Good Afternoon!

I've just put my knitting away and am enjoying a cuppa and catching up on the internet.

I want to give encouragement to anyone considering the 5:2 diet. I have been following it for some time - and it really DOES work!. It is fairly slow progress - I think 1 pound a week is average...and I don't always manage that! (I have various issues that make things super difficult!).....But even my GP has told me he is impressed with my results!...This summer I have been able to look at buying clothes from the High Street (there was a time when I had to breathe in and squeeze the bulk into a 5XL from outsize catalogues).......I find the Official Fast Diet Site (website is thefastdiet.co.uk.....) to be very useful, they have a handy calculator for BMI and the important TDEE (the calories you eat on a non-fast day).....You get to eat 'normal' food - so it is really easy to fit into a family life.

(I am pretty passionate about 5:2 but don't want to get too effusive here and turn this into a diet thread....however I'm happy to answer any questions about it...as I'm sure the other 5:2ers amongst us are!)

I need to get my shopping list sorted tonight....off to Morrisons tomorrow.

just a quick one as I am up to my eyes in it.I think a stone in 6 weeks is doable.I lost the best part of 5 stone last year. and not put any on over the last 6 months. No fads,no diet foods,no clubs.very happy to tell anyone how I did it if you want to know.I have worn my husband down and he has lost 1 stone in the last 4 weeks, but thats men for you.

Another 5:2 ite here. Some days its easy, some are harder. In over a year, I have only broken a fast day once. I have lost 1 1/2 stone (11 st 8 down to 10 st 1 - I am 5'7"). Whilst there is a lure of 9 stone something, i am happy with this weight. Most of it went off in the first 6 months but there has been slow reduction since.

On an MMM note - i "annie Sloane"'d a chair today. Seeing how it worked before doing DS wardrobe and bookcase. It's very effective.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I'm itching to get to grips on my bedroom furniture. Is Annie Sloan chalk paint VJs?

We have loan of a sander so will be sanding our second hand pine chest of drawer tops probably next weekend. I will also sand the tops of the wardrobe too in prepararion but I'm not planning on painting that piece yet. Im also fancying bleaching the wood tops too. Depends on how well the sander does. Its well over a year of having battered orange pine. I cant wait!!

I'd love to see pics VJs if you have any :)

So interesting hearing all your stories from the past. I admire you all, you are all so strong.

I was happily married for 21 years with 3 children when my DH died of cancer nearly 10 years ago. Although we were left with a huge house with the mortgage paid and enough to put in the bank I have always been aware that once the money has gone there is no more.

We stayed in the house for another 8 years, had the renovations finished, etc, the eldest 2 children have left home and only DD is still at home (she's 22). About 18 months ago I sold the house and moved here, smaller, 3 bedrooms, needs work but I am so settled, feel like I needed to have something that is mine. Most of the money is going to making this house as I want it as I am not intending to move again (health willing).

I work part time as a Learning (Teaching) Assistant which doesn't pay well so need to look after the pennies! My mum was very frugal so it hasn't come as a shock and I actually quite enjoy making do and looking for bargains, we certainly never have any food waste and I am able to make an edible meal from sad bits in the fridge!

Most of the furniture is fairly old and I like nothing more than picking bits up from Freegle or the tip and giving them a new lease of life.

It does take me some time to get to know people (even on-line) and you are all so supportive and an inspiration. Thank you.

Back again.Been working in the charity shop today, then went food shopping, then moved the bedroom furniture to a different room.

Lyn what time were you planning on setting off from MK? On looking at the coach web site it seems to take 2 hours from Nottingham to MK.Jan I can see that I just can't get there in time,as much as I would love to come.I have looked at trains which are much quicker but the best I could find was £80 return.Vx

    Hi Vulpix,

I googled trains from Nottingham to Bromley South and there are some limited places for £32 one way - will look to see if there are some quotes for a return trip. How old are you- are you eligible for any reductions?

Looks like coming here is £28 after 9.30 and leaving is £32 so £60.

Sorry - me again. According to Martin, it is cheaper to split the ticket. Same journey but 4 tickets instead of 2.

    Here it is

    Hope that helps.
