I bought a pair of Gabor shoes in a charity shop for £9.99. Brilliant shoes. I also like Hotter-these are my current work shoes in the black colour-I can wear these all day and my feet don't hurt.

Yes Toomuchdebt I know they do but they are far too wide for me. They have only ever had one shoe that fitted me and they stopped making it about 20 years ago. If I had the pad of fat that most people have on the soles of their feet I could walk all day but I can't. I need the cushioning that trainers have.

I'm a Cl@rks fan for shoes, in fact I had a look in there yesterday and saw a pair of sandals I think I would like this summer, the last ones from there saw 3 summers of constant use before they hit the bin.

Cold here today, a lovely blue sky and sunshine but a sharp frost, I would imagine my little plants are struggling, hope they survive.

The door on the new wood stove is all sooty, any ideas how to clean it, I've tried damp newspaper dipped in the ashes to rub it with but to no avail.

Stilty - You certainly have your work cut out with Master Stilty, sounds like you need a solution pretty quickly.
  • I only made about 12 so no need to have a second childhood mind you, I've rather enjoyed the 67 year one first time round!!!

I've a pair of clarks sandals which are being used 4th year running this year. They're so comfy I'll be sad when they do give up. I find shoes for fashion so amusing. I was watching a girl trying to walk a couple of days ago on cork wedge heeled espadrilles that must have been 6"high and her ankles kept going sideways so she looked bow legged, she was really unsafe but I have to say she was 'fashionable', give me flat comfort every time. I find these days it's difficult to find a sensible flat pair of shoes that are waterproof rather than fashionable. Most have a stitched welt and I've never had a pair of welted shoes that didn't let in water instantly. The practical side of shoe manufacture seems to sadly have dissappeared.

:) Lyn, woman I used to work with came hobbling in on a crutch one day, one foot bare and heavily bandaged, grimacing with pain. Horrified, I asked whatever had happened; she'd fallen off her wedgies at the mall - and taken 3 other people down with her. Another girl I know bust an ankle falling off a kerb in platform trainers (what an abominable idea the platform trainer is).

I have an emergency dentist appt in a couple of hours and will be taking today out of my annual leave, as agreed by my manager just now on the phone.

It's a nice sunny day, and if Mr Dentist doesn't leave me too wretched, I may head up to the allotment later. Or I may just hang out at the homestead and do some decluttering. Have already used the extra time to remove a layer of memos to self and misc paper from the top of the trunk which I use as my coffee table.

I always wore stilletoes, certainly in my teens and twenties with pointed toes (I think we called them winkle pickers) and they made your legs and ankles look good and then slightly smaller heels into my mid fifties).
Of course this is probably why I can't wear them now, I have probably damaged my feet, but I did love wearing them.:)

    Candlelightx

Ah the days of the winklepickers, which were then replaced by 'chisel-toes' I married in '62 and had my DDs in '67 & '69:D. Had such fun back in the days of my youth, you never imagine growing old do you.I may be a bit clapped out on the outside but inside I am a mere slip of a thing :rotfl:still probably as daft as I was.I actually asked my eldest DD the other day if she thought I had changed much since she was small, and she said I had 'mellowed'
'Sounds like a bit of old cheese' I replied
'Oh no Mum ,more like fine wine'
Bless her she so diplomatic :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: perhaps she meant less fiery as I was a bit of a rebel in my younger days (I was on the CND marches back then).

Re the shoes, my late Mum gave me great advice years ago which at the time I thought daft.
'Always have good shoes and a comfy bed as if your not in one your in the other' :):):):) so true.I now have happy feet and my bed which I could probably do with a new mattress if I'm honest, is 'my shape' and extremely comfy.:D

'Pottering day' for me today as I have no shopping to buy and I just feel like doing nowt for a change.

Came home from DDs last night with some left over cooked veg which I will have delve into the freezer to find something to go with it.
so not a lot of cooking to do today.

Tomorrow night is quiz night and you get a cooked supper thrown in with the price of the quiz (£2.00) which is very good value and saves me having to cook on Tuesdays .

Looked at the food budget purse, and its looking good for a chunk of left over change to go into the holiday account on Friday which is the start of a new month and new budget for me.

Very pleased at how I am using up as much stuff as I can from the freezer.I dug 6 litte chicken drumsticks from the freezer last night so I may do some cajun drumsticks in the remoska to eat over the next couple of days for lunch with salady bits
Hope you all have a good week
    Cheers JackieO xx

Morning All -been MIA since Friday so just taken me a couple of hours to catch up with all your lovely posts.
We've had a busy weekend - drove to Southend on Friday to a birthday lunch with my Aunt & her family, left there & drove up to Bourne to stay with DH's Aunt & Uncle (fantastic fish & chip supper from a place called George's). Saturday drove to Wisbech for lunch with DH's cousin then back to Sleaford for birthday BBQ with his other cousin (REALLY big family) Sunday we came home via Birmingham to see my Godmother for a couple of hours & finally got home about 6pm last night.
Loving all the comments about clothes and shoes - I can't believe I used to wear stilettos all day at work (hairdresser) it was full make up too then - do you remember spit & polish mascaras and corn silk lipstick? Must have looked like death warmed up! Many years ago DH treated me to a 'Colour Analysis' day - the lady was very good - got me spot on & I reckon its saved me hundreds over the years 'cos if its not 'my colour' I don't buy it and anything I do buy goes with at least 5 things in the wardrobe (same sort of mantra as you Vhalla)
I've always been a 'shoeaholic' and I've still got a pair of candy pink kitten heeled slingbacks that were bought in '67. They never got thrown out 'cos they were so expensive at the time - I reckon I've worn them about every 7 years as the fashions come & go!
I'll leave them to DGD in my will as she's the same size as me.
Must go - came home to a dripping overflow so need to give DH a hand to check it out - Happy Monday everyone x

Good morning folks, doesn't this sunshine proper perk you up?

Camelot my Dad used to clean his stove door with vinegar, works a treat.

Oh shoes, remember the fashion for clogs in the 70's?I was running in mine to get out of the rain and went over on my ankle, was on crutches for weeks and still have problems with that ankle now, have steroid injections into the joint.

Well the second viewing saw them increase their offer by 10k but it still isn't enough,so we will see.I will reduce it a little but not as much as they want, even the estate agent tells me not to reduce it as it is priced to sell.

Not got a deal to do today as yesterday I knocked spots off as my Aunt used to say.Well actually she used to say "I'll have this fag then I'll knock spots off,!!!!!! it ,it's too late now I'll do it tomorrow"

I know,I could finish the quilt! Will do that.Vx

:) Well, my pinged-off overlay is now cemented back into place with the advice to treat that side of my mouth carefully for the next several hours. Will do; I see the immediate future and it features SOUP.

Depsite having cranked open the old wallet, I feel happy to have been out in the chilly spring sunshine as I walked to the dentist, lots of trees in flower, very pretty. Will see a friend in the early afternoon then potter up to the lottie. Not feeling A1 (bad night) but want to have something to show for a spare day with no rain so will do a bit of gardening.

:p Does my dental appt count towards MMM? Technically, it was mending.........

Morning All, sorry there was no recipe yesterday, but in spite of his 'lurgy' my DB came over, but has had to go back home this morning as he needs to see the doctor before the final battle in Krumlov; it was a wonderful surprise as I'd given up hope - it must have been my reward for cleaning out the oven yesterday morning.:j

I'd been thinking about winklepickers and our shoes in general and was going to suggest that all you ladies who are wishing for high heels, how about wedges? And then you tell me about all the accidents, so I won't suggest them. It cannot be that I have a superior sense of balance and that is why I can wear high heels, as I have no sense of balance at all and can't even ride a bike. I'm very lucky to have my health - touch wood! But I do work at it, eating sensibly and exercising more or less regularly. I'm not a fanatic, I like a drink as much as the next girl - pink champagne last night - not out of my budget, I hasten to add.

Talking about budgets, after the shock of my coffee consumption I've decided to have one good cup in the morning, and obviously if visitors want one, but apart from that, I'm going to switch to green tea and cold drinks - far easier now that summer is a coming. The weather here is glorious again. Gardeners, do I water my garden/pots in the morning or evening and does it make a difference? Even my DB who has a wonderful mature garden was impressed at my garden's progress.

I'll post a good recipe later when I've got the washing on the line.

Finances are improving, but mustn't get complacent.

    Have a good day, folks,

    Viv xx
