Thanks Savingqueen. Right place, right time for once!
DH was all worried at the till because they said they had to call the supervisor over the salmon. He thought they weren't going to let us have it but I reminded him it happened last year with the beef joints reduced from £18+ to under £3. Too big a reduction and they have to get authorisation.
He hates salmon but he was as proud as punch with our savings.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

Just want to quickly say I'm loving this thread! I'm slowly getting through it
I have also made some similar goals for 2015, try to consume less, buy second hand where I can, buy local when I can to try and reduce the cheap imports coming into our home. And re purpose/reuse.
Towards the end of last year hubby and I decided to reduce his hours to get a better life/work balance. We had our third child last year and we want to spend more time together as a family.Love people use things. The opposite never works.0 -
I minimise the use of electric as much as I can with a family.
I tariff surf every few months and change to the newer, cheaper tariff if there is one with Scottish power.
I now have my dual fuel bill down to £834 for the year.
I read the meters most weeks and submit as an online customer.
Known by the family for unplugging and switching lights off when not in use.The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0 -
I have repaired 2 pairs of jodhpurs and have a new dog bed from old curtains and an old duvety cover
Jods would have gone in the bin otherwise.
Also my kids no longer need telling to switch the lights off when they leave a roomDebt - CCV £3792
CCB £1383 (took a hit for a holiday)
Loan 1 £1787
Loan 2 £1683

Laundry day today....so a good chance to take stock of what need mending - the focus is on 'what needs 'taking in'...as well as the green suit I mentioned earlier, I have found 2 other pairs of slacks that have got another few months wear in them if I can take in the waist and for one pair, take up the legs too (about 3 or 4 cm needs to be taken up)...I don't have a sewing machine so it will be hand-sewing.
I get taken shopping once a week to do a supermarket shop. (Lovely friend takes me and Mum...I use some of my DLA to pay her petrol for the trip!)....trip is planned for Wednesday so I need to get my list sorted.
I definitely want to make a new batch of cheese - so will be making joghurt today or tomorrow too.
However...there is one BIG money-saving crisis.....Mum has received the new Lakeland catalogue...she spoke to me earlier and I swear she was drooling over all the lovely products! She is coming over for coffee tomorrow and bring the catalogue with her!...I MUST be strong! (I have bought from them in the past...and some of their gadgets are fantastic and DO actually save money in the long-run....but I need to say NO to buying new mugs....and I do NOT need new saucepans.....stay strong Prinzessi!!!!!)
(Oh....and just BTW....I am female...so it is Prinzessi...or Prinzessilein...or Prinzess....but NOT Prinz, cos I'm a little princess NOT a prince!:D )0 -
Repaired a hole in my daughter's jeggins today, not a huge thing, but felt satisfying.

Wishing you all good luck!

I've darned holes and sorted the cuffs of a 30 year old jumper my now passed aunt knitted me - it appears to have come back round in fashion and now has a bit of shape to it again
The sewing machine is out to take in some work trousers and I'm still trying to get my head around a lose cover for a wing back (granny ) chair. The later is proving tricky around the wings to arm rest bits. I'll try find a pic in case any of you can help!
Apart from that I've promised the cats new cushions out of scraps n' old pilliows for their baskets :rotfl:
I have my eye on a few old dresses that could either be turned into tunics or skirts, but have enough to be going on with just now.0 -
I was in M&S this morning and they had smoked salmon reduced to..... it was reduced to £9.45p.........so they still have it!!!0

Repaired DD2's coat pockets before she headed back to Uni, when she has her gloves on and puts her hands in the pockets, it splits the edges of them so 10 mins spent stitching and reinforcing the pockets and they look as good as new :j0
