    but I was trying to work out what you were having for ages. Looks like very grown up fishfingers :rotfl:

    Agreed Lilty - the halloumi cut nicely for about 3 slices out of the block and then proceeded to crumble - the one slice is actually *like a child might draw a fish* shaped :rotfl:due soley to the fact that a lump fell 'orf!

    The halloumi was the one that was on special in mrL a month or so ago. Very nice product, not sure I'd stump up it's regular price mind - ok as a treat though :D

    Hello Greying :wave:

    just popping in to touch base as I've not been around the last few weeks. Your meals look fabulous as always. I had asparagus in my veg box the other day and came across a brilliant recipe for using the woody stalk ends http://www.abelandcole.co.uk/recipes/woodland-asparagus-pesto. Makes things go that little bit further.

    Loved the bee photo you posted on my diary - you can see the pollen she's collected really clearly.

    Best wishes

    Good Evening :hello:

    Well, I started to watch the footy, but got a bit underwhelmed, so decided to pop in here to bore you wif pics of us tea instead :D

    Saturday Night is once again, Strictly Curry Night in June. I didn't make the curry that I intended, as I hadn't got around to buying any aubergines :o But I had some mushrooms (mrT EDV chestnut ones) and so headed off in a different direction, with them and my mrT EDV cabbage :D

    037_zpscvy1ldsd.jpg

    We had colourful spiced cabbage which is a really nice recipe from Reza Mohammed, with Kodora Mushroom Curry (scroll down for recipe) which is from Madhur Jaffrey's Curry Easy Vegetarian along with lentil dhal and steamed basmati rice. Even though I say so myself, it was a colourful plate of food, none too expensive and yet really nice to eat - I think I struck lucky with the combination, as everything worked well together :D

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

    the generosity of MSE'rs, sharing time and knowledge

    DP's understanding

    that a slow descending, late afternoon funk, got headed off at the pass with the clatter of saucepans - hurrah! for me cooking mojo :D

    Thanks for popping in, reading and joining in. I remain appreciative.

    See y'all later.

    Wish I had popped on here an hour earlier. I will not stoop to rescuing the woody ends of my breakfast asparagus (with poached eggs) out of the bin bag.. :o

    Dinner looks lovely. I love mushrooms, but Him would rather eat curtains than put a mushroom near his mouth. Definitely one for a Him free night. good job I have so many ;)

    Have a lovely Sunday Greying xx

  • Good Evening :hello:

    I'm going to risk my sanity, by posting a post heavy with pics and links when the forum is playing up and apt to lose the teeniest of posts.........

    Monday night: For June, Monday nights are 'make do', with most of the items coming from the freezer and/or the storecupboard. We had (frozen) Broad bean Kuku, with a tomato/garlic/basil salad, Salad-e-sabz (scroll down to pg97. It's not the recipe I used, but close....) and some chopped up beetroot;

    003_zpsm2rsxps2.jpg

    Tuesday night is still *Soup&*. I had planned on making a summer Pea and Mint Soup - cold if not chilled. The weather was filthy :rotfl:and therefore, this soup was most definitely served warm with a swirl of yoghurt and some nigella seeds on top;

    034_zpsnfvcnujh.jpg

    Tonight, well I changed the menu planner around and we had our Buddha bowl tonight, rather than on a Thursday. I made a BB based heavily on Leanne Brown's 'Deconstructed cabbage Rolls' dish, which you can find in good & cheap (pg 109). My sausages were veggie, I used a whole sweetheart cabbage between 2 which I steamed (with cut up leaf 'ribs') in the microwave. A little tomato sauce was mixed in with the brown lentils and then the remainder put on the side of the plate. A gherkin was chopped and put on top with the sausage and the whole lot sat on caraway steamed basmati rice (you can't see the rice in my little bowl, but it is there!). Then I drizzled yoghurt over the top, which i'd slackened with a bit of dill pickle juice.

    I'll be delighted if this all posts first time!

    Currently on shore-leave and working us socks off!

    Thanks for popping in, reading and commenting. Appreciate it.

    See y'all later.

    Hmmm....picking up ideas here.

    Right - nigella seeds on top of soup. Check. I've had some nigella seeds for embarrassingly long (ie whilst I forget I have them/wonder what to do with them). All other suggestions for uses for nigella seeds welcome....

    "Slackening" yogurt with pickle juice - hmm....maybe I could do similar with the brine I have some fermented cucumbers in...

    Good Morning :hello:

    Well, I've been somewhat neglectful of my diary :o But I have been trying to practice frugality and thrift, whilst extracting maximum enjoyment from this life :D Think we've succeeded on the QT :D

    We've been lugging butty boxes and thermos flasks all over this fair isle of ours :D Well...... DP got lumbered with most of the lugging :o We've had HM bread sangers in some wonderful spots, including sitting on a fallen tree, on the side of a very steep slope. It made pouring out the coffee a tad difficult, but I wouldn't have swapped it for the world :D We were also sat in the most idyllic spot by a stream yesterday, and in addition to nattering incessantly about gallygirl ;):rotfl:we were musing on how much a meal in a posh restaurant would be, and whether it would yield significantly more contentment than we were experiencing at that moment in time. We decided that given we'd not been to any posh restaurants, we'd have to deduce that sangers and HM buns in the great outdoors were preferable to extraneous amounts of cutlery, big plates and small portions :D Mind, I don't suppose you have to fend off passing Labradors looking to half-hinch your grub in a posh restaurant! :rotfl: We were sat on a bench that was commemorating a couple's Golden Wedding anniversary - so *thank you* to S & M for staying the course, so we could eat our snap in comfort and serenity :D

    My avocados have been holding on to un-ripeness, so have been mucking up my 'Thursday night is Buddha Bowl night' plans *sigh*. Naturally, by yesterday, they had all decided to ripen en-masse................. *sigh* I've also been gifted a shed-load of garden produce - including asparagus :j that I want to make the best use of, honouring the hardwork that has gone into growing it, and the generosity of spirit in which it was gifted to us :D So we'll be headed to California in *spirit* with our meals, even if it is more like Siberia and Seattle currently, in the vicinity of Greying Towers :rotfl:

    We dropped in on some aged rellies on our travels yesterday. As we were sat in the back kitchen, which led onto the garden, I became aware of the most wonderful smell. I knew that it was starting to rain, even though it was too light to see/hear, because of the smell that was rising up from the warm earth/flagstones. It was really nice, and relatively fleeting, as it wore off as the rain steadily got heavier. It's really satisfying to have the time and space to notice the *small* things in life. We also spotted some fallow deer in the forest yesterday. We were lucky, as there was only DP and I about, we were quietly cycling, so I spotted the deer and we were able to stop and watch them for a while. The spot is also used for mountain bike racing - I don't suppose that the race participants in the upcoming gala will be wanting to spot any wildlife, but it was nice to have the time to stop and stare :D

    Our visit to the rellies yet again put into the spotlight the value that good health plays in our enjoyment of life. I know that we are limited in what we can do to *stop* ill health visiting upon us. My Uncle invited none of his ailments to stay, and the lifestyle he's led has had proportionately little bearing on them. But to see a previously strong person absolutely wracked in pain, whilst simultaneously apologising for not being 'good company', (they were still good company, they always are) makes me so determined to concentrate on enjoyment in life and try to look after our health. I'm not in control, and what visits us, visits us, but what I can do to positively influence my life - stay active in mind, body and spirit, for as long as I possibly can - I must do. So, I'm afraid that future diary entries are going to contain a lot of 'cycled', 'walked', 'ran' ('coz I was late - I ain't taking up jogging! :rotfl:), 'munched vegetables' and 'explored red wines' ;) I hope you'll continue to join in and share my journey. It really is surprising how many of you join us on our day trips out and abroad as it is ;):D

    A poor life this if, full of care,
    We have no time to stand and stare.

    You write of a well balanced life, with delight and joy in abundance. You are a wise woman and therefore "rich above rubies". Thank you for sharing your joy with your humble audience.
    What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?
  • WOWSERS! satchmo what an incredibly eloquent and kind post.

    Thank you.

    However, I don't think of anyone who reads this diary as humble. On the whole, you're a pretty supportive and inspiring bunch :D Tis I who is humbled that y'all make the time to pop in to see me :D

    Beautifully put, both of you :T.

    Having time to stand and stare is a blessing I'm giving thanks for every day :).

    Also having the time to lie on the sofa for hours playing on the laptop :o.
